      Hello, is there any way to change just the background picture for my retropie? My coding abilities are not that advanced so it would take a while building a theme from the ground up, it would be nice to customize it a bit though.

        You will have to tell us what theme are you using. There are many themes and most of them have special backgrounds for each system.

        But if you're using the default theme (carbon) you can try replacing /etc/emulationstation/themes/carbon/art/carbon_fiber.png with your image and change background tiling to false in /etc/emulationstation/themes/carbon/carbon.xml.

          I'm using the standard carbon theme like you said. Do i just replace the name of the image with the one i want to use then and change background tiling to false?

            @r3cho Yes. Just note that background is defined three times in the carbon.xml file for various views. You will need to replace it in all three places.
