Hey! I've finished my retro pie portable build, and it's working great. Now, I just need some good games to play! I'm looking for suggestions and people's favorites for any supported system. I never owned any drag systems growing up, so I don't know any of the good games there. And I missed some of the good ones for Nintendo too. Looking forward to playing some great games!

@bfenty I am particularly interested in coin-op arcade games, so stuff like Joust, PacMan, Donkey Kong, Dig Dug--it should be easy to find lists of the top arcade games of the 80s.

For Nintendo, you have to play Super Mario Bros, SMB2, 3, and of course, the Zelda series.

@bfenty Well, it's going to be a step backward in technology, certainly, but it's the original. The gameplay is good and winning the game will take several sessions. I liked the Adventure of Link a little better (both are NES) with the original Zelda played top-down perspective, and Link is a side-scroller for most of the gameplay if I remember correctly.

@bfenty: I'm a big fan of beat 'em ups. Alien vs Predator, Armored Warriors and The Punisher (all for Final Burn Alpha) are some of my favourites. There is also the Streets of Rage/Bare Knuckle series on MegaDrive/Genesis.

When it comes to platformers, I don't think anything can beat Alien Soldier on MegaDrive/Genesis.

NES is my favourite system. Here are my suggestions:

                • Mega Man 1-6
                • Castlevania 1 and 3 (the 2nd is a kind of RPG and I didn't play too much)
                • Contra (don't forget to use the Konami Code!)
                • Felix The Cat
                • TMNT2
                • Little Nemo (pretty hard game)
                • G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero
                • Ninja Gaiden 1-3 (f@#$%ing hard)
                • Snow Bros
                • Kirby's Adventure
                • Metal Storm
                • Battletoads (the toughest game of this list, but it's really fun to play)
                • Micro Machines
                • Baloon Fight

These are what I remember now...

Don't forget to play with RetroAchievements!! It adds more fun to the playing! ;-)

nes zelda was one of the first games i spent a lot of time with on my pi. it rules! it's really hard at points but it's got this sense of exploration and mystery that even the later zelda's miss. i had to draw out a world map on a notepad to work out where to go/where i'd been :)

@Alucard I would also add The Lion King to your MegaDrive list.

Some people call it broken. I prefer to think of it as prohibitively winnable.
