How to replicate the problem: Mostly happens on RPGS but when you load the game the audio stutters once then when you enter a battle it stutters again then stops. The audio also stutters intermittently during the game.

Good day! Odd issue; when using the PSX Rearmed core I am getting intermittent stuttering audio. This is going to sound crazy but it mostly presents itself in rpgs. Star ocean, all the Final Fantasy game and the entire tales series. It starts off the same; I load the game the audio stutters once, when I enter a battle the audio stutters once. After this the game remains fine but there are audio drops that happen intermittently. I could be playing for an hour then pull up an in game status screen and have the audio drop. Other then this gameplay is silky smooth! There is no lag or frame rate drops. Easy solution - duckstation resolves all these issues. Problem is; I don't want to use it because I can't get retroachivements working and its no longer updated. I also noticed too in Suikoden II during the opening FMV the whole video stutters horribly but gameplay remains fine. Once again, Duckstation fixes this issue. I guess I just need to know is this happening to everyone? I tried over clocking (actually kind of pointless as I see no difference) and it doesn't work. I have have also tried alsa/alsathread and that doesn't work. Alsathread actually makes every single system I have stutter like a mad man. PSXRearmed core is the only system this issue presents itself on. I also have great cooling with my low profile ice tower cooler.

I can confirm that fmv in Suikoden II is slow/choppy.
Also the in first fight in Final Fantasy IX the sound is crackling in the beginning, i have saw this also and in the Grandia game when the fight starts. Can you confirm this is the issue you have ?

pcsx-rearmed have a lot of updates the last months, maybe something create issues.

@windg I do get a slight crackle/audio drop on the first fight. I am also having the same issue with Grandia. I have also noticed during the opening intro in Final Fantasy 9 (hard to tell because of the storm) is doing the same thing as the Suikoden II intro.

@windg Same! I have tested at least a dozen or so other intros and they seem to be ok. I honestly not sure how long this has been happening because I have not noticed. I know the audio drops where kinda always there but not as bad. Are your running in bin/cue or from chd? I have also loaded up FF8 and started a new game. Intro is a choppy mess.

I try both chd and cue/bin. This is defiantly a issue with emulator that must be report it to github page : https://github.com/libretro/pcsx_rearmed

I am testing some older versions, i am trying to find when this start to happen.

I reported it in github: https://github.com/libretro/pcsx_rearmed/issues/691

I tested a older version of RetroPie 4.7.19 with the older version of pcsx-rearmed and the issue with the slow fmv in Suikoden II exists here too. Final Fantasy VIII running without issues there.
If you can add here a verbose.log, maybe you have a different issue. Choose to run the game with verbose logging from runcommand menu.

@Refazeshot1 the issue you have just opened, https://github.com/libretro/pcsx_rearmed/issues/692, is a duplicate of the earlier issue opened by @windg - https://github.com/libretro/pcsx_rearmed/issues/691

please delete your issue - you can add your examples as a comment to the other one if you want.

i would also confirm you're using the latest version of lr_pcsx (ie updated via source in retropie-setup) - retropie version doesn't mean much to maintainers of this repo.

@dankcushions Sorry thought if it had more examples it would get looked into quicker! I removed my comment. I am also using the latest source built version of this core so ill make sure I let them know.

The Developer fixed the issue with Suikoden II and another issue with Philosoma. Also said that :

The intermittent stutter/slowdowns are dynarec related, when the game loads new code it has to be recompiled from MIPS to ARM.
