I've been trying to connect joystick (it presents itself as "DragonRise Inc. Generic USB Joystick") to Raspberry Pi 4, which I heard are often problematic when working with them. When Retropie is launched it says the joystick is detected but upon moving it I can't even access the menu to configure/map the controls. But when I type "jstest /dev/input/js0" in terminal and move the joystick, the Axes move so it seems like the joystick itself is fuctioning just fine.

Furthermore if I setup an Xbox One Controller and start a game with it I get the message that joystick is detected but not configured.

I'm planning to use 2 of these joysticks but I'm already having problems with 1.

Pi Model or other hardware: RPi4 Model B, 4GB RAM
Power Supply used: Not official but sufficient 5V
      RetroPie Version Used: 4.8
Built From: Raspberry Pi Imager as a Retropie
USB Devices connected: USB encoder to RPi. Joystick connected to encoder
Controller used: Dragonrise Inc. Generic USB Joystick

@Microwave565 said in Joystick is detected but can't be configured:

A single joystick cannot be configured as a controller - does your setup include buttons for it ? You need to press a button (not the joystick axes) for the configuration dialog to start, as described in the Controller Configuration doc page.

@mitu Well that was really dumb from me. I was literally trying for about 2 months to make this work and didn't even think of using the button. Thank you so much for the help you really saved me a lot of troubles even if it were such an obvious and easy fix, I appreciate your time!
