Retropie will not launch ES after update, config new controllers
-
Hello all!
New here and very new to Retropie. I've been having a lot of issues with an old build and really just want to get this thing working. I bought a Raspberry Pi 3B+ some time ago and some wireless PS2 esque controllers. Never could get them working properly (wouldn't maintain programmed keys) so I recently jumped to 8Bitdo SN30 Pro USB controllers after just leaving it alone for quite some time. I was trying to update & upgrade after I could not program the trigger 1 and 2 keys and now it launches the Retropie splash screen but then goes blank after.I've spent a few hours trying to figure it out - is it allowed here or is there a place where I can just hire someone on to get this thing working? I'm not well versed in Retropie at all and just want to get the thing working at this point with the controllers and wireless keyboard that I have and dont want to spend the hours and hours it takes to continually learn and troubleshoot this thing. For someone who knows what they are doing, I assume its an easy reinstall, update some drivers and configure the settings.
Maybe I need to update to something newer at this point? Anyone who knows more about this stuff able to assist? Like I mentioned, I'd gladly pay for the time just to get this thing working so I can use it. Thanks all.

Why don't you tell us about how your system was installed and what version of RetroPie you have ? Is there any error shown on the screen instead of EmulationStation front-end ?
Did you try a new installation with the latest version from the image you can download from https://retropie.org.uk/download ?

@mitu I originally bought the system from someone online. Today I have been trying to work on it. I went to retropie's website and installed the latest version, I believe it was 4.8. I made a backup image beforehand onto my PC. So the Retropie is working now on the Raspberry Pi. There just are not any ROMs on there with the reinstall. So now I am trying to figure out how to reaccess the ROMs via Ubuntu on the img file that I created...and hoping that I still can!
Any suggestions? Thank you for your help!

The RetroPie image doesn't have any ROMs included.
Any suggestions? Thank you for your help!
Look at the getting started section in our docs, it should cover the basics of using RetroPie for a new user, including how to add new games.

@mitu Oh understood on that front. As I mentioned above, I made a back up IMG file before wiping the retropie and reinstalling. I am just trying to figure out how I can access the ROMs on there. Because I think they are still there - the IMG file is 250GB...I just couldnt use it to actually install retropie because when I tried, I was running into these issues. Thats why I went down the path of a fresh install and trying to reaccess the ROMs in the backup file.
