      Good morning,
      I tried to search the forum, but unfortunately I didn't find a similar situation.

      I was using EmulationStation without problems, but had to proceed with a fresh install due to hard disk problems.

      • I reinstalled Ubuntu 22.04 LTS on PC (i5-3337U, RAM_8Gb);
      • I reinstalled EmulationStation as per procedure: https://www.retropie.it/guide/retropie-su-pc/

      Starting EmulationStation, however, it no longer appears in full screen, but remains "behind" the Ubuntu menu and with a slightly larger resolution. Then starting the games everything is OK.

      Anyone have any idea how to fix? It didn't happen to me before and I didn't change pc/system.

      Thanks to anyone who can give me some suggestions.

        Are you sure there isn't some option in the dock settings that makes it overlap the ES windows ? If you start manually EmulationStation, from a terminal, by running emulationstation, do you get the same behavior ?

          Hi mitu,
          thanks for your answer. I start ES from the terminal as you describe and the behavior is the same. What configurations do you mean by "dock settings"?

            Does it have any configuration to make the dock (the taskbar/menu on the left) display above other windows ? I don't have Gnome desktop right now, so I'm not sure there is something that controls this, but I know there are settings controlling the auto-hide behavior and the width/size of the dock.

              HI mitu,
              yes, it has the setting to auto-hide the sidebar (not enabled for me), but that would only be for the sidebar, not the top one as well. Also the resolution of EmulationStation is bigger, it is seen that the lower part is incomplete...

                Can you check whether your Gnome session is started on Wayland or Xorg ? Log out of the desktop session and choose Gnome on Xorg as the session type.

                  Hi mitu,
                  I started Gnome on Xorg at login and started EmulationStation and it finally started correctly in fullscreen. I tried restarting Ubuntu in x11 and trying again to start EmulationStation and now it boots correctly in fullscreen. I don't think it's correct behavior, but it works. Thank you very much for your patience.

                    @mitu

                    OMG......on my current NUC Setup i have obtain the very similar ISSUE.

                    Little story:
                    I was playing a NES rom and and the light went out by a little black out at my in my apartment.
                    I hung up the meter again and i have turned my NUC back on.

                    On HDD it's be installed the last and current retropie setup script.... it's all updated to current COMMIT and right now from Ubuntu 22.04.1 desktop when i run "rpie" i see emulationstation it's correctly RUNNED at fullscreen but it is moved to the DOWN of the screen and is not centered on the screen.
                    above and upper it appears to be a terminal line....

                    How i can fix ?

                    I have tryed to reboot my NUC so many times but it's not way to fix this issue......

                      @DjDiabolik I also have a NUC and also got that same "no more fullscreen" EmulationStation issue. As @mitu said, it's because at one point an update from Ubuntu replaced the original GUI engine by Wayland.

                      But I'm like you: at first, I had no idea what "Log out of the desktop session and choose Gnome on Xorg as the session type" was supposed to mean on my login screen. Then I found the solution explained with some screenshots here: https://beebom.com/how-switch-between-wayland-xorg-ubuntu/#:~:text=On the password screen%2C you,Xorg” to switch to Xorg.

                        mmmmmmmmmm.. currently and recently on my NUC i have also used an extra tools.
                        I have setup this:
                        https://techithings.hashnode.dev/ubuntu-how-to-hide-top-bar-and-side-bar

                        After add the 'Hide Top Bar' extension apparently can use Wayland whitout any issue.
