What does this error mean? (lr-mess)

I've installed lr-mess-x1-cass via @Folly's excellent addon, and I'm trying to run a .TAP file in it. I know the file is good because it runs on a Windows emu. But it crashes straight out saying this:

What does it mean by "set path"?

(duplicate posts merged)
It means that the MESS core is not present -
/opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-mess/mamemess_libretro.so
is not found. Starting with Aug 2022, the name of the core has changed tomamemess_libretro.so
instead ofmess_libretro.so
. If you haven't updated thelr-mess
package, you're using the old version, with the previous name, while @Folly's add-on learned about the new name a while ago. -

If I install the new renamed "mamemess" version of lr-mess will it leave the old version alone, or will it overwrite it?

Ah, that makes sense, thanks - I am still using the old version because I couldn't face manually changing literally hundreds of CFG files.
Why would you need to change these .cfg files ?
As far as I know nothing has been changed, lr-mess/mame still uses .cfg files the same way.I would make a backup of your .cfg files, if they are really important.
That way you can always restore them if you need to.(I installed the system using the old version of Folly's addon so I thought it'd still be using mess_libretro.)
Seems you somehow have a miss-match.
I would recommend using the latest version of my script and also the latest lr-mess and mame.I've now changed the line in EMULATORS.CFG from mamemess_libretro to mess_libretro, but now it crashes with a segmentation fault (see below). Is there no longer any way of running the files without installing the new lr-mess and spending all next week manually editing configs?
Not really sure why it doesn't work for you.
I also got the same game "Bousou Tokkyuu SOS.tap".
I works for me if I use : lr-mess-x1-cass
But it doesn't work if I use : lr-mess-x1-game-specific-cass (in my Virtual Machine)
With lr-mess-x1-game-specific-cass it does work if I rename the file to : "Bousou.tap".
Somehow there seems to be an issue with spaces or strange chars.
I will need to check too on my pi.Check your retroach.add file in /opt/retropie/configs/x1.
I should load custom-core-options.cfg.
In custom-core-options.cfg this needs to be in there :
mame_softlists_auto_media = "disabled"
mame_softlists_enable = "disabled"If I install the new renamed "mamemess" version of lr-mess will it leave the old version alone, or will it overwrite it?
Yes, it will be overwritten.
If you really want to keep it then you have to make a backup of the .so file.All in all, why don't you make a new image it's really quite old now.
Keep the old SD as backup and if you really need then get the files from your old SD card. -

Ah, that makes sense, thanks - I am still using the old version because I couldn't face manually changing literally hundreds of CFG files.
Why would you need to change these .cfg files ?
As far as I know nothing has been changed, lr-mess/mame still uses .cfg files the same way.Because all the EMULATORS.CFG files that currently call mess_libretro won't work any more because it'll have been replaced by mamemess_libretro.
I tried renaming the file to bousou.tap but it made no difference, still came up as an unknown system.
Check your retroach.add file in /opt/retropie/configs/x1.
I should load custom-core-options.cfg.

mame_softlists_auto_media = "disabled"
mame_softlists_enable = "disabled"
Yep, those lines are already present and set to disabled.
I'm quite happy to have a copy of mess_libretro and mamemess_libretro in /opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-mess/ at the same time, if I can work out how to set permissions to let me do stuff in that folder.
-
I assume you now have this libretro-core installed :
/opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-mess/mamemess_libretro.so
Do this command for me and let me know what the output is :ls /opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-mess
Read this post.
This could be a solution, let me know if that makes any sense to you before you try it !
With the commands mentioned in the post you can backup all your configs together with your emulators.cfg then change all emulators.cfg to use mamemess_libretro.so. -

No, I don't, because I don't want to break dozens and dozens of MESS-based emulators for the sake of one game.
If I can run them both at the same time that'd be great, but if not then it's not worth the hassle and risk.

Technically it's possible but I think, for you, it's indeed not worth the hassle and the risk.
