Help with ps3 game controller
-
Hello, I got a raspberry pi 3b+ with retropie 4.8.4
I had this first ps3 generic controller which works perfectly but i wanted to buy a second one so i could invite friends over, so i bought a generic one in amazon but would pair under the name of “gamepad”(weird bc the first one goes under the name of “playstation 3 controller”) but not be detected when i press buttons trying to configure it in the menu.
So i bought another one in a game store, is a “game gm284”, had the same issue, i read lots of forum pages and watched lots of videos but can’t figure out a solution, i tried with every ps3 driver option and with sixaxis too but none of them would make them work, plus the first controller i had only works with the ps3 driver on shanwan option.
any help is appreciated, thanks -
@costas ps3 controllers have always been a mess in retropie. The drivers work, and then they don’t. Even on official controllers. Mixing different brands of third party may cause issues. All sorts of problems with the way Sony made the Bluetooth connection with the ps3 that’s not generic. My advice is maybe try a usb dongle designed for ps3 controllers or try another type of controller that is easy to configure like a ps4/ps5 or an 8 bitdo. Or any of the several generic Bluetooth controllers out there. Quality may vary.

@lostless
at the end i just connected a xbox controller by cable and it worked at the same time as the other one.
The new problem is that when this xbox controller is the main controller/1st controller, and i press the buttons a + b (at the same time), the game im playing freezes and crashes and then reloads.
The config seem to be good so i don’t understand the issue -
@costas it’s controller priority. The usb ports take priority over the Bluetooth connection. You can change the which controller is which in the retro arch menus. As far as the resetting. It sounds like you set the hot key as either a or b. Reconfigure that controller in emulation station to make either select or the Xbox button the hot key.
