I had to run:
sudo apt install fluid-soundfont-gm
to get rid of this error
timidity: Error reading configuration file.
-
Yes is doesn't work for now. Temporary you can try lr-dosbox-pure, it's working fine in me.
-
@LeatherWing support for Bookworm and Pi5 is still worked on, some thing are expected to not work.
That being said,
dosbox-staging
should work - you're probably hitting this issue. Did you apply the configuration suggested ? -
@mitu I'll try that tonight. Looks like it might help with N64 issues I'm having as well if I read that right.
-
@mitu Yeah, I found out yesterday that DOSBox Staging installed on the RPi OS desktop (via Flatpak) won't run correctly unless you set kernel=kernel8.img in config.txt. I was testing Doom and could not get it to launch. I could run the command prompt and the setup program, but starting the game resulted in a crash to desktop.

Yes, it's not the only emulator/application. Same (similar) issue reported last week in the Pi5 topic (see https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/34627/raspberry-pi-5-official-announcement/103 and the subsequent posts).
-
@mitu Thank you again and as always for your suggestions.
dosbox still fails to load after applying the kernel=kernel8.img fix. I believe that's expected at this time...64bit, bookworm, Pi5 early adopter "wait for updates" issues.
dosbox-staging appears to launch, however I only see "unsupported format" on my TV (I'm 95% sure that error is from the TV and not the Pi, but what format it's griping about I have no idea). Assuming I'll need to figure out how to force a rezolution on dosbox-staging and cross my fingers.
If you have any suggestions for the format, I'm happy to hear 'em.Can confirm that fixed the N64 emulator mupen64plus. Games at least launch in that now.

If you have any suggestions for the format, I'm happy to hear 'em.Use the
runcommand
launch menu and choose a resolution from there. The error looks like it's coming from the TV, indeed. You can take a look at the log file (/dev/shm/runcommand.log
) and see which resolutiondobox-staging
tries to use.
