a friend of mine game me a sd card for rassberry pi 3b but i have a rassberry pi 4 how can i update the card so that it will work on the rassberry pi 4 with out loosing all of the rom etc...

The most safe is to backup the roms, bios files and start a fresh install of RetroPie for Rpi4.
