Basically the 6.10 kernel, Ubuntu based, Gnome I think it was. And has mesa pre-installed.
The Mesa is from some forked repo but seems to work. Not sure why they use that. Mesa needs to be of a certain version for Panthor, don't remember exactly which.

Iv'e added some more notes on the youtube info box.

and

If you get an error when trying to run a game try first running in the term,
export WAYLAND_DISPLAY=""
to revert the environment to xwayland. (or something like that)

Alternatively use the -nogui version. That doesn't complain about wayland in qt6.

Ahh.. regarding Audio. I got audio in my desk speakers by running a dongle I use for my sons headphones. It plugs into USB and gives me a 3.5mm jack I can plug into the desk speakers. Don't test using the Ubuntu Settings->Audio 'Test' thingy as that seemed broken.
I also got sound by plugging the headphones into the jack of my PS5 controller and using that to play with. But something was a bit janky with glitchy on/off input for some reason so I ended up swapping to an xbox controller I had.

update: after doing a little configuration the game doesn't boot. I think I messed something up in the settings. Probably selecting the wrong bios or something.

I will keep testing. If anyone knows what I did wrong please share your input.

Working on trying to get Munt working on a Pi5.

I was able to compile switching the flags around a little. I used "-mtune=cortex-a76" and "-march=armv8.2-a+crc", and I had to remove the "-mfpu=neon-fp-armv8 -mfloat-abi=hard" instructions.

I installed it and got everything setup, but on boot, the Pi complains that "rc.local[1023]: Could not open pcm device: default" and "rc.local[1023]: mt32d: pcm.c:1226: snd_pcm_prepare: Assertion 'pcm' failed."

Any ideas?

On the information given I would lean towards a Pi4.

You have a ready made environment, a lot of documentation and many users which are in the same boat as you. The PS1 emulation works very well. Also Arcade games up to mid of 1990s will be fine.
You can also squeeze out a little bit more power if needed with overclocking.

With a Pi5, albeit having more horsepower, be prepared to learn RetroPie from the trenches. As you can see it this platform is still in frequent discussion here and there is no readymade image yet.

I started with a Pi3 my first arcade setup (as there was nothing else around), but I would not start with it again (in short: too many limitations for my requirements). If at all I would consider a PiZero2 which plays roughly in the same performance league but has a more modern graphics stack.

If you want to play GameCube or Wii at fullspeed on a Pi5. You must use Dolphin standalone.
You just need to set your controller once and create hotkeys like lr-Dolphin and it will be like the lr-dolphin with the same hotkeys.

@ExarKunIv got it!, i allready thougt that lr-melonds has to be in the extra-repo as i did not find it in the reular core-sections ;)
I just printed out your installation-tutorial here in the office and will start again in the evening ;)

Actually you can use box 86 witch emulates x86 on a arm processor.
