Speedlink usb joystick model sl-650212bkrd getting to work
-
I purchased speedlink usb joystick model sl-650212bkrd to play my favourite game strike gunner as the play is very awkward with the game pad. I then found speedlink joystick is not detected when plugged in, also the game pad that always works with speedlink plugged in the game pad then stops working too. Absolutely gutted as alot of the old platform games are designed for a joystick or at least thats how i played them on the original consoles. Is there any way to manually configure usb speedlink joystick and the four buttons on it. Many thanks. D

I then found speedlink joystick is not detected when plugged in,...
Not detected by who/what ? A program/emulator or the operating system ? Are you trying to configure the joystick from EmulationStation's Controller Configuration page and it's not detected there ?

Hi thanks for your response, much appreciated.
I tried all different permutations of having the speedlink joystick connected to my retropie standard build image (running on raspberry pie 4 with 4Gb RAM)
- Boot up with just the speedlink joyskick - OS no input detected no control over anything
- Boot up with game pad & speedlink joystick - game pad works in OS but neither joystick or game pad work in any emulation.
- Boot up with game pad only - Both OS and emulation consoles work with game pad as input device.
- Tried configuring speedlink joystick from controller configuration page. There is no joystick config profile with the game pad config profile used with joystick none of the speedlink buttons are detected from the controller config.
- I tried plugging joystick in just before as well as during emulating games and the joystick is not detected. However as soon as joystick is plugged in then the game pad stops working too. Without the gamepad connected as a secondary device I cant move through the OS menu.
I was hoping there will be a manual speedlink joystick config option via a config file. So that when i boot into retropie OS speedlink joystick buttons work to start the emulation and the games.
Speed link is the old school joystick we used with most of the old 2D platform games and this USB speedlink joystick is widely sold, I purchased it and it didnt cross my mind this would not work with retropie. If anyone can help to get this working in any config permutation it would be much appreciated I am itching to play pitfall and the rest.
Thank you gents/ladies.

You haven't specified all the info requested - what version of RetroPie, how did you install it, what other devices are used, what emulator are you using, etc. Please add this info.

How many buttons are detected on the joystick - try using
jstest
from the command line to test what is detected on the joystick (buttons. joy movement, etc.). See here how to usejstest
. If the joystick is not detected at all, then it's a connectivity issue (though unlikely to be the case here since something happens where it's plugged in).Speed link is the old school joystick we used with most of the old 2D platform games and this USB speedlink joystick is widely sold, I purchased it and it didnt cross my mind this would not work with retropie.
Yes, we know how it looks. In fact, we had a few questions about it in the past and the vendor page for the gamepad even mentions RetroPie as working in their FAQ.

Hi mitu thanks for that info.
Apologies for not specifying the correct info as I am very new to retropie and struggling with some of the clever stuff. As I built retro pie four weeks ago still exciting about playing games with the game pad but naturally want to make it more enjoyable palying with the joystick. I will check the speed link FAQ and jtest instructions you provided and report back. I get the impression from your responses that this should work so its good news I just need to work out how to configure this.
My retropie build is:
Pre-made images for the Raspberry Pi
The latest pre-made image of RetroPie is v4.8
Released March 14, 2022.
Running on Raspberrypie 4 with 4Gb RAM.Regards
