@mitu I hope the Pi5 supports the essentials that people would love to see....ps2, gamecube, wii, and the 3ds. I don't know what else there could be or how high it could go, but I am assuming those 4 are key to the success of the pi 5. Best of luck to everyone and best wishes and huge thanks to all involved with this project.

Emulation of PS2, Wii, Gamecube is already here with RetroPie to be the only system that have a PS2 emulator, but don't expect optimal performance, PI5 is weak for this systems.
        I don't know about 3DS, i haven't saw a video about that system in Pi5.

Why does this current version of emulationstation treat controllers like XBOX 360 and PS2 Dual Shock differently? For example, when I configure the inputs, this is what I get:

          XBOX 360:
          START - Button 7
          SELECT - Button 6
          East - Button 1
          South - Button 0
          North - Button 3
          West - Button 2
          L - Button 4
          R - Button 5
          LT - Axis 2+
          RT - Axis 5+
          L Thumb - Button 9
          R Thumb - Button 10

          PS3 Dual Shock:
          START - Button 9
          SELECT - Button 8
          East - Button 1
          South - Button 0
          North - Button 2
          West - Button 3
          L - Button 4
          R - Button 5
          LT - Axis 2+
          RT - Axis 5+
          L Thumb - Button 11
          R Thumb - Button 12

          WiiU Pro Controller:
          START - Button 9
          SELECT - Button 8
          East - Button 1
          South - Button 0
          North - Button 2
          West - Button 3
          L - Button 4
          R - Button 5
          LT - Button 6
          RT - Button 7
          L Thumb - Button 11
          R Thumb - Button 12

So the START & SELECT buttons are assigned to different button numbers. Retroarch doesn't seem to mind but if I'm using a stand alone core like Hypseus I can no longer use START + SELECT for the same functionality on the PS2 controller as I can on the XBOX 360.

I never had this issue on any of my Pi 4 builds.

          I'm currently using emulationstation V2.11.2RP

My retropie setup script is at 4.8.7

Please don't clobber this topic with your issues - which are not really Pi5 related. Open separate topics for the problems you encounter on the latest RaspiOS.

Did someone else have issue with the standalone mupen64plus-GLide64 ?
I have sound but no image - black screen. If i remember correct it was working before. This start to happen after i update core and main packages.

Yeah, I've been seeing the same issue recently, but only on some ROMs and not others. Example: It runs fine with Conker's Bay Fur Day, but no longer with Crusin' USA. I spent a few hours last night trying to find any breaking change.

Can rule out these recent commits, which are fine:
                eaa8a13 mupen64plus - fix building on armv8 with 64bit kernel/32bit userland
1da8bdd mupen64plus - add flag nodistcc to disable distcc for module

I tested the script prior to these ^^ changes and still yielded the black screen issue on some ROMs that used to properly render. Nothing of substance from runcommand.log, in fact, it's fairly blank other than showing code execution.

I reinstalled from my backup, which is 3 weeks old, and then updated the: retropie-setup script, core packages, raspberry packages and everything is working correctly.
If i update the mupen64plus then the problem appears.

Okay, there were five (5) upstream changes made to the mupen64plus-core repo on May 3rd. UPDATE: Issue identified and explained here with temporary workaround.

Which means this is not related to any OS/RetroPie updates, but with a core update. Just like @TPR before, you're reporting any issues un-related to the Pi5 on your installation here, just because you're using Bookworm on a Pi5. I'm going to lock this topic down if it's going to become a dumping ground for any issues appearing on RaspiOS Bookworm with/without PI5.

Sorry, my only purpose was to inform users to be careful with what is safe to update to avoid this problem. I will not post any issue again.

I'm using the pi 5 for quite some time now, and so far I got everything working well. Except for Dosbox Staging.
It runs quite well, the auto crt shader is super cool, the performance ist great, but I have a lot of sound issues.
Many (most?) games feature audio dropouts and crackling noise. I think it has something to do with MIDI, but I'm not sure.
Has anyone else tried Dosbox Staging with the Pi5 so far?

For the Raspberry Pi 5, is the 64-bit OS Lite image preferable?

Yes, use the 64bit OS version if you intend to do a manual installation.

I installed RetroPie manually, and everything is working fine!
I am going to try Vulkan so I can run some Naomi and Naomi 2 games that don't run very well under OpenGL. Besides reinstalling RetroArch and SDL2, do I have to reinstall the cores?

I would say the same as on the other images, so either 2003 as a default (which imho should be replaced with m2k3+, but that is just me and my 2ct) or the ones you install via retropie-setup (and personally i doubt that a pi5 will perform well on current-mame, but maybe at least be playable for some older titles (e.g. even asteroid with newer mame(s) (.251 was the last version I tried on the pi4) wasn't really playable)

@Jiryn An overclocked pi4 ran system32 games on mame2016. With a pi5, I'm using fbneo. I wouldn't use mame2003 again unless you want to play Killer Instinct or similar games.

I can't get sound with USB audio. Is there a way to set it on the Pi5. Am I the only one having this problem?
