cant see systems or roms in retropie

i am struggling to get systems and roms showing up in retropie. i followed networkchuck's tutorial on how to get the software up and running on my pi 4b, but it wasn't a full tutorial and seems to have an expectation that the viewer knows some additional info. i got everything done up to the point where i want to start playing some games, but i can't see a system selection or any of the few roms i have.

i think i have good roms but can't figure out how to get them to show up in retropie. any help will be greatly appreciated.

You need to copy the ROMs to their system's folder, not directly into the roms folder. So copy your .nes games into roms/nes.
If you have a Windows PC, as your screenshot shows, you can copy them over using file shares - see the Docs for details.

@mitu what if i created individual folders for the different systems i wanted to get games for? so, if i had a folder in RetroPiROMs folder named nes and another named n64...would that work still?

i just found the Docs page as i was waiting for some help and am going to try that now.

out of curiosity, does that command that networkchuck says to look at find new roms whenever they are added or would i have to do that each time i added new roms?

I haven't looked at the video so I can't say, but following our docs should be pretty simple. As long as an emulator is installed, the sub-folder for the sytem it supports should be automatically created under roms and you don't need to create any folder.

@mitu solid copy. and i just decided to try it to see if it does work...and it does.

i created a subfolder called nes and put the roms in it and then followed networkchuck's command and now the systems and roms are showing up.

just started getting into pi's and command prompts and what not so i feel very green and dumb. thanks for the assist.

You don't need to use the command line at all. Our docs explain everything, even in video form if you'd like to.
