      Hello,

In my experience, there's not a big speed difference between the Pi 3 and 4. However, I did notice a significant performance jump with the Pi 5. Do you think the Pi 5 could run a current version of MAME? Has anyone tried it?

      Thanks for reading

@pindapoe Sure, go for it! A lot of games run great with lr-mame on the pi5. Recently even a Model2 emulation was added, but this is probably a bit too much... my overclocked pi5 struggles..

Feel free to refer to my compatibility list and observe the Pi5 column for recommended emulator.

I don't know where you heard that but either you misunderstood or your source is not trustworthy.

Model2 emulation has been present in MAME for over 2 decades, but only 3 games out of 36 are considered playable with visual issues (vf2, rchase2 and motoraid). It has been like this since MAME 0.196 (in 2018).

@barbudreadmon Ah, yeah, you're right! I probably misunderstood something.
But at least the emulation got better, because I can play House of the Dead now (albeit with some slowdowns).

hotd is still marked as not being playable, so while it might boot, it's probably crashing or becoming unplayable at some point.

@barbudreadmon I have to dig deeper into mame lore, I guess! I only played until the first boss fight. So at least that works. 😅

@ecto You can find out more about the working state of a MAME romset by looking at http://adb.arcadeitalia.net/dettaglio_mame.php?game_name=hotd (where hotd is the name of the romset)

"Preliminary" means the game has the MACHINE_NOT_WORKING flag in its driver, which normally means it's not fully playable or not playable at all.
