Having trouble with Non-Merged CPS2 sets in FBA-Next

I could really use some help getting the CPS2 ROMs to work on lr-fba-next. I have a Pi3 and Retropie 4.0.2. ALL of my ROMs are from the FBA 0.2.97.38 Reference Set (Non-Merged).

All of the CPS1 games seem to run fine but the problem I'm running into with CPS2 is this: If I have the US version of the game in the ROM folder with the parent version, it works fine. But as soon as I take the parent set out, the US version stops working (auto-eject back to menu). Since these are Non-Merged sets, I'm confused by this. Aren't Non-Merged sets supposed to stand alone? I've followed the tutorial on GitHub to run my ROMs through CLRMAMEPRO, using the FB Alpha v0.2.97.38 (ClrMame Pro XML).dat DAT file. Still the same problem. If I try to run, say SSF2TU without SSF2T in the same folder, it won't work even though all the files from SSF2T are IN the SSF2TU zipfile.

What am I missing here? And thank you in advance!

@Ikyrus this is fixed in lr-fba-next as per this commit: https://github.com/libretro/fbalpha/commit/5e1341cb9d5915ca4b3f21ec3f882fcefc99c4d5

if you update lr-fba-next via binaries it will probably be fixed. if not, update by source.

Well...

After updating via Binary, a FEW of the ROMs that didn't previously work, started working. But most still did not. I then updated via Source, and same result. Most of the Non-Parent ROMs still won't run without the Parents even though they are all non-merged. Stumped...

I apparently spoke too soon. Now it seems that since I updated, the parent ROM sets don't seem to work either. Again,all of the CPS1 ROMs work perfectly...It's just the CPS2 ones. And not ALL of them but most of them. Here's what some of them look like:

Neither of these sets work now.

Now SFIII3U, for instance, didn't work before the update but now it does. And no parent ROM is needed. Let me know if you need any other info from me. (And thanks a ton for taking the time to help me through this!)

Now that looks to be a merged rom. I guess I could try that though. I will update soon.

The new FBA (0.2.97.39) requires romset 0.175. All of the CPS2 games now have a .key file that wasn't present in the 0.174 romset. Get the updated roms and they will work. It's a pain, and I've been busy doing it all day.

It's a shame you can't roll back to the last build of 0.2.97.38. Yes, there is an earlier build of it available on the Retropie 4.0.2 image file, but it doesn't have some more recent bugfixes (like being able to run non-merged clones without the parent rom).

i took u.s or euro roms that were parent roms and used them as i cant tell a difference between them. If i recall correctly, i took the japanese parent roms and just renamed the us files to the japanese files names and dumped them in the japanese parent rom zip. Might have been mame stuff but i think it was fba i did this for. However i only use fba for neo geo and capcom arcades.

I'll see if I can get updated versions since I'm sure RetroPie will be updated to reflect the new FBA at some point anyway.

That seems to have done it!

Apparently, the .38 ROMs wouldn't work because of the Non-Merged bug, but when I updated it to fix that it updated to a version that needed .39 ROMs.
