      @backstander ok, i don't know why i'm using both files in a folder lol.
      anyway, my japan rom is sfiii3n, the no cd version. i was looking for a euro or usa no version of the same tipe, but it looks like doesn't exist.
      my other versions of SFIII (new generation and second impact) work like a charm with two files: sfiii / sfiii2 and their respective .chd files. but i can't find the same for 3rd strike. i've tried a lot of roms from various sites, but nothing happens.

      i'm using lr-fbalpha

        the difference that i noticed between the other two Street fighter III games is that the rom files (sfiii.zip and sfiii2.zip) are the same size of their chd companions, but everytime that i look for a sfiii3.zip file, it's only 129kb or something. and i don't understand why.

          I had the hardest time at first getting MAME (and the likes) to work. What I finally had to do was decide that I'm going to use lr-fbalpha and downloaded the complete 0.175 romset (something like 4+GB) and then decided my backup would be lr-mame2003 and I just downloaded the complete version 0.78 romset (I think it was even bigger). Both of these romsets came with the Windows corresponding version of MAME to work with that romset and I would find the game I wanted in the Windows version of MAME and it tells you the filename. I would just copy those files to my Pi in the correct folder(s) and most games have been working great. Every once and while I find a game that doesn't work for FBA, then I just get the MAME2003 version instead and vice versa.

            one of those files is a "parent" ROM = original rom; others are "merged/split" = it uses archives from original ROM.

            Read Stept 5 in: https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Managing-ROMs

            If you want to use another version with a small size (like 129 kb) for sure it´s a merged rom and you need to have the original/parent rom in the same folder.

                  @flop i've tried a lot of sources... i'm beginning to lose faith xD
                  everywhere the parent rom is 129kb, the only version that works is the japanese nocd

                    @FoxPie
                    I think I figured out why you make the sfiii3 sub-directory. Okay the sfiii3.chd file goes into that /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/fbasfiii3/sub-directory but sfiii3.zip and sfiii3n.zip go into /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/fba/

                        fba doesn't use chd files. you need to stop messing around with random files and get the full fba romset 0.2.97.39 :)
