NES/SNES & Sega Genesis Display & Scoring
-
This is my first real install for RetroPie, so I am a noob (just installed 4.1) - but I was wondering if there is a way to apply a shader to the old NES/SNES/Sega Genesis so that it will more resemble an old CRT screen while I am playing. The old graphics on an HD monitor are somewhat distracting to me.
Also, is there a way to make the NES/SNES/Sega Genesis retain the high scores. The games seem to be saving the high scores until you back out of the game - ten they all reset to the default.

Please also read through our documentation https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Shaders-and-Smoothing
regarding hiscores - you can't save the hiscores unless the game itself originally supported it, you are using mame with a game with a supported hiscore.dat or you load a snapshot /save a snapshot everytime

@dsfrancis There is a way to do it, but it takes a bit of digging around. RetroArch has an option to automatically save the current state on exit, and another you can set to automatically load the state when you launch a game. This does mess with achievements if you are using RetroAchievements, and it does take longer to load and exit the games, but it can be a good solution if you have a Score-based game that you want to keep the high scores on.

Adding to what @MagiusRetro said, you could also have the settings he mentioned applied on a per-game basis to avoid having to deal with the drawbacks in all your other games. More information can be found at the link below.
