Dear all

Although this frustrating hopefully this is an easy one for clued up peeps like yourself to 'solve'.

I noticed on my Pis both previous and the 3 (purchased only yesterday) that when I power on , ie plug into wall, BOTH Red and Green lights show, but the Pi doesn't boot, I have to physically remove the power lead (from Pi) re attach and away we go, flashing green light and scripts running .

I find this a bit worrying at i am concerned about long term damage wear n tear or power surges to the board. In addition my plan is to build an arcade cabinet for this and have the Pi out of sight - thus easy access to power leads will be restricted.

Please advise on if there is a setting or something i can change to have it more responsive to a cold boot.

This is an SD card issue. Check the compatibility list here: http://elinux.org/RPi_SD_cards

.......or it is to do with the way the card has been formatted.

Red should be solid, always, since it's the power.

Green is SD card activity, so there is a chance the card or the data are corrupted (or not seated properly). Use win32disk imager and the standard sd formatter.

Just for a bit more clarity:

I only bought the Pi 3 yesterday (arrived from Amazon)
I got NOOBS (as part of package) but also ordered a 64gb SanDisk SD micro for that extra "space" (I love my ROMS man!)
I created this image with WinDiskImager as you suggest, it is the 64 GB that i am using.
The SD does reads fine BUT not on initial power up, I have to disconnect/reconnect and we are away.
I believe this happens on ALL my Pis I have 3 (I have a Retro one, a XMBC one and Raspian one for coding etc)

@Slighty Does it do it with the noobs sd card? I think that 64GB cards are not formatted as FAT32, but as exFAT, you must use a tool to convert them to FAT32, as a Pi cannot boot from an exFAT partition. You must use an alternative formatting program after using the official one, to convert (re-format) the resulting exFAT file system to FAT32. I can't explain the initial power up thing, maybe something is happening to the card during the bootfail that fixes it ready for next time only for it to fail again. Is your card compatible with the list? I doubt that it's a hardware issue to be honest, it has to be with the setup of the card.
