Hotkeys issues

Hi. I got my two generic joystick controllers working with retroarch and now I can't exit the emulator. Holding the start and select buttons a the same time don't work any more. I have tried using putty to manually add hotkeys but all my files in the /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads aren't shoing up as anything but empty files. And also, how can I get both joysticks working simultaneously in emulation sation. All help is appreciated, Thanks.

@Kristopherson05 configure the controllers on emulationstation and those files will be created.

Hotkeys still don't work and when ever I configure my controllers in emulationstation, the other one doesn't work in a game and I have to configure everytime I turn on my pi.
