Stella Screen Size

@Bluey Please do not post a support request without first reading and following the advice in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first
(No idea of your system, and there are 2 stella implementations for example).

Without the information BuZz is referencing, any attempt at helping you is guesswork. However, I believe I ran into this same problem when I started using Stella. As I remember, the solution was to alter those particular settings manually in
/home/pi/.stella/stellarc
. For whatever reason, all other options save properly when set through the GUI. -
Apologies,
I hope this helps:Pi Model: Raspberry Pi 3 B
RetroPie Version Used: 4.1
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website
USB Devices connected: Keyboard, Mouse, SNES Controller
Controller used: retrolink snes controller
Emulator: stellaI am going to look at the stellaarc file to see if that works.
Any other suggestions are always welcome. -
Hi all,
I cannot locate the stellarc file. Any ideas?
-
@Bluey ok so here is what you need to do. Tab into settings and set full screen. Then exit stella. Go to /home/pi/.stella/stellarc . Change the permissions to 655. Everytime you open stella it resets the fullscreen if it can save it. The only way to stop it is by restricting it from being able to save the file.
-
@Bluey it might just be easier to use the libretro core ?
-
@BuZz i dont use the libretro core because it doesnt support all the switches or any of the controllers other than the joystick. Its ok for people who dont care about all that but bad for people who want use the switches options and paddles and keypads and stuff. If lr-stella supported that stuff i would use it in a heartbeat.
-
@Bluey also if you set ntsc or pal aspect to 90 you get 4:3ish ratio. If you set it to 120 you can get full widescreen.
-
Apologies guys, I am still struggling here. So the reason for using stella and not the libretro core is purely to be able to configure my usb snes controller for the different gamepads for the Atari.
The bit im struggling with is locating the .stella/stellarc file. I am using WinSCPto connect but the only files or folders in /home/pi are 2 folders called Retropie and Retropie_Setup. -
@Bluey in winscp you have to find the setting to show hidden files. Folders that start with a period like .stella are hidden.
-
@Bluey you need to configure winscp to show hidden files/directories
-
You are all wonderful.
So I changed the fullscreen value in stellarc from 0 to 1.
Restarted and showing perfectly.
This one is SOLVED.
Thanks all. -

Yeah, lr-stella has a lot of non playable games due to it's lack of peripheral and console switch support. However, I've been very happy with the native version of Stella. I don't believe there's a single game that you can't get working in some way. There is a bug in the older version used in RetroPie, that causes the paddles to stick to the walls, but it's still preferable to the complete absence of control found in RetroArch.
