[SOLVED] RetroPie on Ubuntu VirtualBox - All Games Crash On Launch
-
I've decided to mess around with trying to run the x86 variant of RetroPie on an Ubuntu VM, and while things installed just fine, I'm finding that every game, on every emulator, all crash. I'm not sure if this is because it's a VM, or something else.
I'm running Ubuntu 16.0.4 LTS
RetroPie 4.1.8 (b2ab4ca)Here's an example from the runcommand.log, but all games have a similar segmentation fault issue.

Any ideas?

@obsidianspider possible the VM graphics may be messing with things. I haven't tested it myself so I can't be sure.
-
@herb_fargus I'm kind of thinking that may be it. When a game goes to launch things resize into a window and go bizarre. I also noticed it does it when I try to run RetroArch from the RetroPie menu just to see if I could tweak any settings.

@obsidianspider I had similar type issues with dosbox and windows 3.1 in a VM. If using virtual box you can try messing with the video settings, I vaguely remember some experimental acceleration of sorts you could enable, may have been for directx though

@herb_fargus Good call on looking at the video settings. Disabling the 3D acceleration in VirtualBox allows games to run. There's some stutter, but I'm blaming that on the VM environment (crazy though with an i5 and 4GB RAM). Thanks for helping diagnose the crashing!

@obsidianspider well if you think about it you're using a computer... To emulate a computer... To emulate another computer ;) emulatorception! lots of overhead processing there. But glad it's at least functional :)
