Solution for Hotkey Interfering with certain NES ROMs

Hi all,

I poked around to see if this particular issue has already been addressed, but didn't see anything.

I recently built up a new emulator using a kit from Canakit

It contains a RPi3 Model B along with approved cables/power brick/etc.

I loaded the v4.1 RetroPie image on it and everything works great. Things have come a long way since the first time I did this a couple years ago!

My specific question revolved around mapping (or remapping, as the case may be) the Select button as a hotkey. 99 times out of 100, this isn't a problem, but sometimes I need to use the select button in conjunction with another button while I'm playing. For example, Solar Jetman on the NES. Select + B is the command for turbo boosters. Of course, when I do that, the ROM resets. I've looked through the wiki, and I've come across some pages dealing with remapping hotkeys, and more specifically, remapping them for specific games, but I'm still just a little fuzzy on exactly how to do it. Would someone mind laying the steps out that I would need to take to work around this problem?
