The hotkey actions are only available for P1, that's by design - it cannot be configured.

@sleve_mcdichael I'm using a fork of retropie that doesn't allow this, well it allows it it just defaults every settings changed on reboot, so I need to do this via the hardware

The mame cores I have installed are:
      a) lr-mame2000
      b) lr-mame2003
      c) lr-mame2010
      d) advmame
      e) mame4all

Most of the arcade game mappings in the emulators.cfg file point to either lr-mame2003 or lr-mame2010.

The contents of the retroarch.cfg file in /opt/retropie/configs/mame-libretro/ is as follows:

      input_overlay = "/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch/overlay/MAME-Horizontal.cfg" input_overlay_opacity = "1.000000" input_remapping_directory = "/opt/retropie/configs/mame-libretro/" # include "/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg"

So I don't see anything here that should override the global controller settings.

The runcommand.cfg file located on /opt/retropie/configs/all/ does not contain any code for the "launch menu joystick control" function right now - it does have:

      disable_joystick = "0" disable_menu = "0"

...plus three other lines of code for use_art, governor, and image_delay.

I have tested the controller on the following console menus (accessed via the retropie configuration menu, from the screen where you would otherwise select a console & game):
      a) Configuration Editor
      b) ES Themes
      c) Raspi-Config
      d) Retropie Setup
...essentially every one I have tried that takes me to one of those blue menu screens the controller has not worked on.

The controller also does not work on the "File Manager" page (which appears to be a different type of interface than the other console menu pages - but I assume is still in LINUX space).

The controller does work on the Retroarch GUI when I launch it from this Retropie menu (just as it works when I am able to access RGUI from other emulators where the hotkey functionality is intact).

      Thanks

I'd rather just push a key and change the metadata value for hidden.

There's no action for that implemented. Either edit as you're doing now or edit the gamelist.xml file directly and add the hidden tag there.

I am trying to understand what you mean. I can use the 'press hold for 3+ seconds to exit' as long as I don't use a hotkey?

Yes, that was the wording, but I think I've confused the exit option with some other binding - I can't find any exit related option in RetroArch's menu.

Then I have no idea. I routinely use a keyboard - without a hotkey set - and don't experience the behavior you're describing.

@wacko413 said in How to unmap hotkey to reset:

Hi there. I'm new to RetroPi. I am using RetroPi with a pair of XBOX 360 controllers. On controller one when playing an NES game, if I press "down" and "B", the emulator will reset the game. I don't want that to happen. (I'll be happy with some other control pad-button combo, but not that!)

How do I change this setting? When I go to:
"Settings / Input / Hotkey Binds" / "reset game"

it just says "auto: 1 (n/a), (Key:h)", but nothing about a 2-button combo to trigger this action.

The hotkey setting for your controller is part of your joypad autoconfiguration. You can redo that from the main EmulationStation menu: Settings > Configure Input

I press the "Start" button on my controller to get the menu - you can see a picture of it in this page: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/EmulationStation/

Press all of the buttons on your controller when prompted, and then the last question is which of the buttons do you want to be the Hotkey enable button. "Select" is a typical choice :)

@MISTERHOLLYW00D said in Press Hotkey twice to exit retroarch:

I’ve noticed on retroarch in hotkey binds it has the option to press hotkey twice to exit retroarch.

If you're referring to the new 'Confirm Quit' menu, then it's not 'press hotkey twice to exit', but press the 'Press the Quit Hotkey twice to quit', i.e. press the hotkey+Quit key to exit. This option is Off by default in RetroPie.

Anyway to change the coding on this for a hard press...holding the hotkey to exit instead?

That should be addressed upstream (RetroArch), but I'd say no, since it would be too easy to exit the emulator by holding 1 key.

@foxtochop said in How to edit autoconfig hotkeys?:

Is there going to be any problem in the future for me by binding state slot -/+ to "99"? (Any of my controllers have a "99" button).

No likely, since updates will not overwrite the file you modified.
As an alternative solution, you can disable the joypad auto-configuration performed by EmulationStation and modify your gamepad auto-config profile in /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads to set your own hotkeys.

      Alright, thanks!

For those interested, here's how I fixed it:

When you map keys with "m" on the virtual keyboard, they get stored with the "keymap", not hotkeys or joystick map. You have to "save current keymap to" to save it to a file. Then you have to change the "Active Keymap" to "Positional (user)".

I actually did another step by manually loading the keymap before I quit vice, but I don't think you need to do that. The next time you load up vice, the user keymap you saved should be loaded.

@Clyde i guess it’s these encoder keyboard devices and their strangeness. there’s a whole page on the wiki devoted to them: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Keyboard-Controllers

(personally i think this page is a good indication that retropie doesn’t handle them automatically much at all. if i had one i would want to fix that!)

@mitu said in Where is my Hotkey Issue?:

From a cursory look at your config files

Rewind seems to be disabled via the main config file (rewind_enable = "false"). You should enable it first.

On a default RetroArch install, I see there's a input_rewind_btn, try setting it on your desired button input code.

      same for input_hold_fast_forward_btn and input_toggle_fast_forward_btn.

      Thanks, man. That fixed it.
