how do i boot straight to ES and no sound while playing roms.

I am setting up an emulator machine for a technologically challenged coworker. First question is how do I boot straight to Emulation Station. I go into boot config and the only options are boot to desktop and console. I want to be able to turn on the pi and have it go straight to ES without having to log in or anything. Every time I boot I also have to do the command $ sudo service lightdm stop and I don't know why. Second question is how do I get sound in my games. I'm using HDMI to a tv.
