First time boot issues

Linux/ pi noobie,
Using Pi 3
Using retropie v.3.7
using sandisk ultra class 10 8gb sdFollowing the video guide posted on this website. mounted sd image onto sd, booted fine first time with blue screen and the 'resizeing the file system' text displaying, after it reboots however, it comes up with several issues including:
'failed: failed to start update UTMP abort system boot/shutdown'
'failed: failed to start LSB@ resize the root filesystem to fill partition'
'failed: failed to start hostname'
after this is shows some sort of shell with image of a pi bunny?
before the ri bunny there is a split second flash of what looks like emulation station (white'ish image)
downloaded the image 3 times, and reformatted and re-mounted image 3 times too, im out of ideas.
Also my usb saitek keyboard doesn't seem to work, but assuming that's just drivers or something and will look for a simpler keyboard.

What do you mean by "mounting" the image? I'm very sorry: but I'm not going to watch a video. I'd like some text. With that I can work.
Good luck trouble shooting! :-)
-
sorry by mounting i mean using win32 disc image to write the retropie image file to the sd card.
please see below for screenshots:
-
try a different sdcard, could be possibly bad?
-
Cheers, was my thinking too, according to the SD compatibility list mine should work but will give it ago.
Just to shot im not completely useless, here's the physical arcade built itself so far:

The sceenshots are impossible to read (some too small, some rotated). But I see a message flying by that says
fs error
which means something like "file system error". Retropie has troubles re-sizing the partition. Eiter the image is written to the SD cards the wrong way by `Win32 disk image' (no idea what that program is...) or your SD card is corrupt.I've had this problem many a time w/ writing images to SD cards w/ utilities like
Unetbootin
etc. Only method that worked for me was a tutorial that described how to write the image to SD card w/ 'ye ol' dangroes command line programdd
(in Linux). In windows I'm afraid you're stuck w/ aforementionend Win23 program thingy.Do you have a link to the tutorial that you followed in text form? Good luck writing the RetroPie image to SD card. :-)

LOL that "Win32 program thingy"works perfectly fine, very easy and fast.
I would try writing your image with Win32 without doing any formatting as it does this itself. It should be fine with the ScanDisk Ultra, it's what I use might just be a bad card though.
Also what power supply are you using with your Pi3 ? It really needs a 2.4 amp or better to work correctly, it will start doing strange things without proper power. At leas that what I found. -
I agree w/ @Finhead on the power thing. Weird things happen on an under powered Pi.
-
Try either creating RetroPie from Raspbian
http://blog.petrockblock.com/2012/07/22/retropie-setup-an-initialization-script-for-retroarch-on-the-raspberry-pi/
Or using a different SD card. Also, if you see a rainbow square in the corner, you need a better power supply.

@TetrisSmasher this is a more updated guide:

@w3bboy I'll take a stab at this as I've seen something similar to what you are describing and it was a storage issue in my case. You might try going here to see if it will help in your case. I had trouble (for whatever reason I don't know) upon first boot that the automatic resizing of the partition did not take correctly and had to do it manually. You can ignore the parts about changing the cmdline.txt file for using a USB thumbdrive (but I'd HIGHLY recommend you investing in one! I've got a 128GB stick with only 8GB free on mine after loading it up with everything I had) and just jump to the part "Once booted, " area about deleting and recreating a primary partition.
Keep in mind, you're limited with that 8gb card in the number of roms you'll be able to throw on there...
This may/may-not help but thought I'd give ya a poke......
