Bizzare EmulationSation error on First Boot
-
When ever im in ES the entire screen has these flashing squares over everything. This happens after a fresh flash of the card. However, if I load into a rom or go into a backend menu it goes away.
I've tried updating/upgrading in the backend, multiple different memory cards, hdmi cords, monitors and even tried installing in Debian and still get the same thing. I'm out of ideas.
-
@justhoeber well that's a new one. Have you tried a different HDMI cable?
Also if it's a software thing perhaps you can try upping the GPU split
-
@justhoeber bad pi?
-
@herb_fargus tried multiple different cords.
I think it is software because everything works except emulation station. How would I go about trying that?
-
@edmaul69 maybe? but it wouldn't make sense that everything else works how it should.
booting it as a Linux computer works exactly as it should and all the roms work.
-
@justhoeber have you tried forcing a specific video mode (or two) in /boot/config.txt?
-
@edmaul69 I tried a couple but dont remeber which ones, the ones I tried made most of the screen white and worse.
any you would recommend?
-
@justhoeber what resolutions does your tv support? Can you use pastebin.com to post the contents of your config.txt? Also what are you installing this on?
-
@edmaul69 it is a 1080p tv but it suppots everything down to 240p. I've been installing this on a raspberry Pie 3 model B V1.2.
-
can you post your /boot/config.txt?
-
@dankcushions see link above ;)

doh!
gpu_mem=128
should be deleted IMO. -
@dankcushions that can be done, that was me just playing with different gpu splits
-
@dankcushions however the problem persists
-
@justhoeber have you tried these settings?
hdmi_group=1 hdmi_mode=16
If i recall correctly i think i have actually seen this before but i forgot how i fixed it or created the problem.
Maybe set this too:
config_hdmi_boost=4
-
@edmaul69 I just put in those settings then booted up the pie and still have the same problem
-
@justhoeber Can you post a video of this happening?
-
-
@justhoeber Never seen anything like it. Does it do this on clean install of retropie from an image?
-
@rbaker yes, im assuming at this point i just got a bad pie and im in the process of returning it and getting a new one
