Looking for testers for ES Video Preview on Raspberry Pi

@fieldofcows Congratulations, you did a great work. I'm still working on the theme.. stay tuned. XD.

So what is you next step? Going to take a well deserved Holliday Christmas vacation
Haha! I do this for fun so you can expect to see more output over the Christmas period!
I have a couple of tested features already lined up:
- Random video from the gamelist as a screensaver
- Play sound when switching systems
After that I'm looking for work. I might give the white screen of death a go. I haven't seen it myself but I think I can see where the problem lies and a potential fix.
I know @Nismo would love me to make some metadata file path improvements :)
-
@fieldofcows Don't worry don't get hurry for me, because since i'm working in themes, it's faster for me to disable "save metadata on exit", that way emulationstation open and close faster.
I think you must fix video transparency bug in Rpi before anything else... but it's just my humble opinion.
About white screen of death: There is a fundamental bug with EmulationStation where unique background images are not loaded dynamically so if you have more than ~10 systems (on most themes that have a unique wallpaper per system) you will start to get a white screen of death and nothing will show up.

Merry chrismas to all. XD.

The one where the video was tinted blue? That's already fixed and was included in the PR.
-
@fieldofcows Nice! you're fast like a thunderbolt.
-
@fieldofcows what about to press a button to see zoomed image inside gamelist? XD
I have a little request, i notice that some images was stretched when i ported pixel theme, so doesn't look good (for example if you use 3d box instead of screenshots). So it's possible for "if no video show image" tag, the image can keep aspect ratio?
I mean if the width of the image it's bigger than heigh then fit to width of video box, if heigh it's bigger than width then fit to heigh of video box, but not stretching the image.
-
@Nismo Ok, noted. I'll add them to my list.
-
@fieldofcows I'll open a thread soon for oldroom theme in projects and themes section, but i don't know if I need to remove the new systems sounds support code from the theme.

Hello,
I have a probleme step 4 - Install dependencies: :
message : 404 not found for a packet....After, i try to finish the install but just after step 6 I reboot but i cannt have access to retropi panel or ES ...
Any Ideas ?
-
In fact , the install is compromise during the process.
Please help me!
-
@Stef11 it's already implemented in the official es. Just update Retropie setup.
-
@Rion Thanks you for your reply.
But, how to do the update retropie setup ? -
@Stef11 Please read the documentation https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/updating-retropie
-
@fieldofcows, @Nismo: How/where are you scraping the videos and marquees from? Are you doing it manually from a website, or do you have a way to automate it?
-
@mattrixk I wrote my own little tool scraping tool that looks in specific directories on my disk where I had pre-downloaded all metadata and related files including video and marquees.
-
@mattrixk I use the method I posted here: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/6589/easy-way-to-add-video-and-marquees-tags-in-your-gamelist-for-video-support
-
@BuZz thanks for answers, I have already do it, but don't work, maybe since few days only....
Is somebody have tested the install recently ?
-
@Stef11 ok i found sorry for the inconvenients
-
@fieldofcows, @Nismo: Thanks for the answers guys. I think I might hold off on the Video Preview for now. There are a few other things I want to get sorted first (I'm elbows deep in the guts of a new theme, and depending on what happens with ES in the coming weeks, it could go one way or another).
-
@Nismo: I also wanted to say, I had a look at your OldRoom theme and it looks fantastic. It's probably the most unique ES theme I've seen. Even if you disregard the video and imagine it with a screenshot in the TV instead, it's still completely different to most other themes out there. I love the fact that it looks like a real room with posters on the wall for games from each system, and the system and controllers sitting on the table. I like all the info you have on the System View too, with game boxes, stats and even a picture of the cartridge.
It's given me a bunch to think about for my next theme (well, the one after my next theme anyway), but now I'm worried that I'll just be copying what you've already done (but I suppose that's okay, considering MetaPixel is literally a ripoff of Pixel because I loved it but wanted metadata displayed).
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
