Got a controller issue with ES, but with the windows version not the retropie version. Just looking for someone to point me in the right direction as the ES.org site looks over run with spam posts and no longer monitored.
The problem is this. I connect my controller (Logitech F310) and retroarch ID's is correctly. I enter ES and it's seen as a Logitech rumble, where it will only map the d-pad, start/select, A +B and up/down page buttons.
How can I fix this so ES in windows will see this controller correctly so I can map all of the buttons (xbox like set up) the same as ES does on the raspberry pie version? -
ES only maps enough buttons so you can navigate the menu, it doesn't send any input to the emulators. Controller mapping has to be done in the actual emulators themselves. If you are using Retroarch you only have to map your input once and it can be used across multiple cores, otherwise you will have to set them up individually.

Not sure which Input mode it needs to be on to work correctly with Emulationstation, but it is worth giving both modes a try. I have heard about the analog not working on these controllers before if the switch was in the wrong setting (not sure if that was on Windows though).

@russelljones Ok, that works.... basically just disregard what ES says (as long as I can move and select a game), and concentrate on Retroarch. I was just surprised/worried as it didn't register the same as it did in the Retropie build on the pie3. I'll look into how to on Retroarch and see how it goes. Thank you.

I believe some of the videos on remapping core input in the Retropie Wiki about Retroarch should work the same for the windows version (I haven't done it yet, but probably will here in the near future): https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/retroarch-configuration
I forget how many nice little things are in retropie like the ES auto-configs for Retroarch that don't always work when you do things separately (and/or on Windows). When I did try Retroarch on Android the core input mapping did work the same as it does in Retropie as shown in the wiki video links.
