My bad, they talked about a custom Tegra X2 in october but they switched to a custom Tegra X1 in december, that's still a big jump in terms of performance compared to the WiiU.

@barbudreadmon But in portable mode switch reduces the resolution, gpu frequency to less than the half and blocks fps to 30.
When in dock 1080p scaled.
Switch is not as powerful than a nvidia shiel but it's more expensive.
Anyway it's looks very cool, but 330 euros (without a game) it's a lot of money for an very old hardware, and not so portable with 3 hours of battery. For less than that amount of money you can pay an xbox one or ps4, and apart they are double powerful, doesn't have 32 gb of hard disk... omg. 32gb just in 2017.
Not to mention you have to pay to play online... microsoft started this thing and all enterprises follow him.
As things stand, CPU clocks are halved compared to the standard Tegra X1, but it's the GPU aspect of the equation that will prove more controversial. Even while docked, Switch doesn't run at Tegra X1's full potential. Clock-speeds are locked here at 768MHz, considerably lower than the 1GHz found in Shield Android TV, but the big surprise from our perspective was the extent to which Nintendo has down-clocked the GPU to hit its thermal and battery life targets. That's not a typo: it really is 307.2MHz - meaning that in portable mode, Switch runs at exactly 40 per cent of the clock-speed of the fully docked device. And yes, does indeed confirm that developers can choose to hobble Switch performance when plugged in to match the handheld profile should they so choose.
Switch runs at 720p, that's because all the games are so pixelated on presentation video.
Any phone at these days has better screen and it's more powerfull than a switch. My phone has 1080p screen 8 cores at 2 Ghz and only 105 euros.
I told I have read a lot about this, I just want to clarify that switch is so powerful as a WiiU, half of WiiU when in portable mode.
Of course if you like the games, go for it, but i'm tired Nintendo is selling obsolete hardware at a price of gold, Gamecube was my last Nitendo console.

Well, i don't think the 32gb will be an issue, Switch run on cartridge and i think there will be a storage zone on the cartridge for updates. Imho, in 2017, with storage capacity going up and price going down, cartridge are better than optical media, and i don't understand why microsoft/sony keep using optical media.
Also, there is no official sources mentioning the clockspeed (even the Tegra X1 is a guess), so i'm still waiting for confirmation from nintendo about that.
Battery is around the same as a ps vita, which is almost the same price while being slower.
Also, i don't think they go overboard for the price, i don't think a Nintendo Switch is cheaper to build than a PS4, same for the WiiU (because of the powerpc cpu and the pad). Poor design ? I don't think so, just different design, they spend money elsewhere.
Again, i don't buy a console for games i can play on my computer, i have both a WiiU and a PS4, and the PS4 was a disappointment (unlike the WiiU with Xenoblade Chronicles X, Bayonetta 2, Fast Racing Neo, Donkey Kong, Splatoon, ... i also like being able to play GC/Wii games on my WiiU). -
I really wanted to get one of these, but I will hold out as I refuse to play £60 for the games, which is what I have seen them potentially going for. Hopefully it is wrong, but will wait and see :(
-
I'm in but it's going to have to wait, it's just not in the budget right now. I actually had one in the cart at Gamestop when they were still up for pre-order but never pushed it through. I'm on a fixed income and my once a month payday falls on the 3rd of every month. Since it comes out on the 3rd of March there's always a chance I'll get lucky and find one locally then but I'm not holding my breath. When I find one in stock when I have the funds I'm definitely there.

Was really looking forward to the announcement hopeing to bag a decent hybrid console that I could play when the partner want's to use the telly rather than using my laptop to hookup to the PS4 or xbox. Massivly dissapointed in the screen resolution and life of the device most £50 windows tablets have the same res screens and hdd space and 3 hours of life whilst playing zelda is pretty poor.
Think it's going to cause quite a few problems when people start realising that it's not a very portable device and it ends up being another last gen console rather than a new gen.
-
It looked decent to me at first but several major problems popped up...
-
It cost $567 to play 1 multi-player game (system, controls, memory upgrade, dock, game)...
-
Nintendo hasn't had the best reputation for launches (thinking Wii and forward, don't remember the others) and I don't want to wait 3-4 hours to end up not getting one.
-
The controls look wonky
-
I can only find 5 games total and Nintendo can't seem to attract a lot game dev companies any more (so probably not a lot of games for the system life)
-
The memory is ridiculously small.... Zelda would take up more than 1/3 of the entire thing if downloaded for the original
-
It's coming from the same factory that made NES classic... The same factory that burned me with production... (There were crying kids, so you say, "Hey, it's ok. We don't need Nintendo. We'll build something better)
I loved my gamecube... It was my first console when i was about 14 years old but it's been kinda down hill. I have a PS4. I would of bought the switch at a lower price point but it's just too high. I'm happy for you if you can get it and I hope you enjoy it if you do.

Wow so many gamers actually talking about lack of full 1080p support? Sure I get that "we're on our way to 4K so why aren't we getting 1080p as the standard?" I have trouble understanding why we're so into our RetroPies, which play all sorts of great games that are far from HD, but we have a huge issue with Nintendo choosing hardware that will not always be 1080p? I am concerned about good games, and of course that is an opinion of what games are "good." I have a WiiU and I enjoy many Nintendo games on that console. Nintendo is definitely doing its own thing away from MS and Sony, and I appreciate they have taken this "other road" for the past 10 years now, albeit a risky one. I always try to support Nintendo if they are delivering something good for me to play, and Breath of the Wild got me in on a Switch for launch. I am concerned about their 3rd party support which has been lacking for so long now. I hope Nintendo put out all their classic IPs like Metroid, Punch Out, etc., along with at least decent 3rd party support in order for Switch to have a better turn out than WiiU.

@GreenHawk84 I think when most people speak about 1080p, they are speaking about the expensive price for and old hardware.
And about retropie, they are playing games from decades ago, most of the systems you can play in retropie, if not all, have no more than 320p of resolution, so you don't need a full hd device, others like me, use emulationstation on windows or linux and can play 1080p or more, but have no sense when the original system was 320x240.
You are comparing games from 1980 with the switch from 2017.
I respect your opinion, and I agree, most important thing in a system are the games, but you should respect the opinion of people that think that switch hardware and 330 euros for that hardware in 2017 it's just and insult.
And that without speaking about 50 euros for games like 1-2 switch....
You still can play the new zelda with the same quality (if not better) in your old wiiu.
And I don't expect too much third party games with that hardware...
Nintendo switch it's a good concept, and looks cool... but 330 euros it's too much money for that hardware, like I said before, there are powerful devices out there with better resolution for 100 euros.
Just my humble opinion.
Regards.

It's not an insult, i have serious doubts the build cost of a switch is less than a ps4 slim or a psvita, which are around the same price.
When Apple sell an iphone 7 800€ while it cost less than 300€ to produce, it is an insult. -

I would have bet it all that '1 2 Switch' would have been a pack-in game. I'll reserve judgement on whether it's worth the money to me personally until I see more of it, but for all uses and purposes, the decision to charge such a price for this particular title means you won't see it in many people's game library.
And I don't expect too much third party games with that hardware...
While I definitely understand and take to heart the importance of third party support for the masses, I personally only ever buy Nintendo consoles to play the first party Nintendo titles to begin with. In a time where most every "AAA" game is yet another clone of the overused 'Grand Theft Auto 3' formula, I always expect the big "N" to keep surprising me with new and exciting gaming concepts. As long as the Switch continues to deliver on that expectation, it's money well spent in my opinion.
-
I would have bet it all that '1 2 Switch' would have been a pack-in game.
Originally after seeing footage of Breath of the Wild, I was hoping that would be the pack-in game. After watching their "presentation", then I also thought they would have 1-2 Switch as a pack-in game but I've read that there isn't going to be any pack-in games!
I don't buy video games consoles when they first come out and wait for them to fix those "Red Ring of Death" issues. Maybe later they'll come out with a slim model with a lower prices and a pack-in game or two. I might purchase one then!

@backstander Not sure how much slimmer a tablet can get. In other words...can I interest you in placing a preorder for the new Nintendo Switch: Paper Mario Edition*
*Paper Mario Color Splash 2 not included with system

Yeah I think your right. If they made a slimmer version, it wouldn't fit in their dock or they'd have to make a slim dock as well.

*Paper Mario Color Splash 2 not included with systemYou should maybe get into sales! Now I want to purchase a Nintendo Switch right now!!! ;-)

Sales is not where I'm looking in the future. Probably woodworking or programming.

I hate sales too haha
Both woodworking or programming are honorable professions. I have done them both but somehow I settled on computer technician. I wasn't that great at programming and I was too slow and too much of a perfectionist for woodworking.

@backstander Well...if those don't work out for me, then I'll have to stick with bowling. Good thing I have time before that decision is to be made.

You gotta love John Turturro!
-
@backstander Actually never seen that movie, and no I don't bowl like him. Though I would laugh if anyone actually did bowl like that on our team.
