Linapple(AppleII) Won't Appear In Emulator Menu
-
Pi Model: Raspberry Pi 3 Model B
Power Supply used: Official Raspberry Pi 3 Universal Power Supply From ThePiHut(+5.1V 2.5A)
RetroPie Version: 4.1 (29aa90c)
Built From: Premade RetroPie BerryBoot img (retropie-4.1-rpi2_rpi3-berryboot.img256)
USB Devices connected: Logitech Desktop MK120
Controller used: 8Bitdo NES30 Pro (Set to xbox mode because it's the easiest way to get it to work with kodi)
Error messages received: None
Guide used: http://blog.petrockblock.com/forums/topic/how-to-get-linapple-disk-images-running-from-emulation-station-in-retropie/
File: +StartLinApple.sh(Start script I made while trying to fix the problem)
Emulator: Linapple(AppleII)I can't get Linapple(AppleII) to appear in the main emulator menu of RetroPie. It should come up if I have compatible rom files(.dsk) in the folder which I do(Zork I, II, III) but it doesn't show up. I created a start script and used
chmod +x /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/apple2/+StartLinApple.sh
like I did with kodi but that didn't seem to do anything either. It's probably worth noting that it does technically work, to launch it I have to go into the RetroPie File Manager and select either the+StartLinApple.sh
I created or I could go into/opt/retropie/emulators/lineapple/lineapple
and activate it that way. When activated that way everything works fine(I'm playing Zork I while I write this) so getting Linapple to work isn't the problem, all I'm after is getting it to be launch-able from the hub menu. -
@ccb9951 Do you have an es_systems.cfg in /home/pi/.emulationstation? If so, you need to manually add the system there. RetroPie looks here first.
-
Ok so Linapple(AppleII) is now on my menu, you where correct when you said I needed to manually add the system to the es_system.cfg in
/home/pi/.emulationstation
but now I have a different problem. No matter what I select in the game menu for Linapple(Which only contains Zork I, II, III) it always loads Zork I. Using F3, F4, Shift+F3, and Shift+F4 to mount Zork II or III and refreshing with F2 still gives me Zork I. I went into the RetroPie file manager and loaded Linapple like I was before and it happens there too. -
@ccb9951 I'll be honest, I'm lost past that as I have never used that particular emulator.
-
-
Also, can you verify that 'Zork II' and 'Zork III' are actually the games they claim to be? It could be that they were both mislabeled copies of 'Zork I' wherever you got them from.
-
@edmaul69 I am booting the games from the menu, the start.sh doesn't actually come up in the games menu.
@mediamogul I check them all with AppleWin, I even booted up Pacman to be extra sure. And yes Pacman also gives me Zork I.

Check your configuration at
/opt/retropie/configs/apple2/linapple.conf
for the following information, paying specific attention thatSlot 6 Autoload =
be set to0
as seen below.# You may also provide images to be inserted in 1 and 2 drive (D1 or D2) of Slot 6 at startup # Default: do not use, starting with image named Master.dsk in current directory # To get access to the disk in second drive(D2), use something like '] CATALOG,D2' at Applesoft DOS(tm) prompt. Disk Image 1 = Disk Image 2 = # The next parameter defines if you wish to auto-load these disk images in drives at startup! # Default value is 0 (Off), suggested: 1 (On) Slot 6 Autoload = 0
-
That worked, I actually changed the Slot 6 Autoload to 1 because the tutorial told me too but it's may have been telling me the opposite I can't really tell because of the way it's worded. I can finally use something other then Zork I but it did sorta make a new problem, it won't boot into a game, every option just brings me to the "HELLO! I am AppleII" screen where I can hit F3 and boot a .dsk.

@ccb9951 you should delete the config, uninstall linapple and reinstall from binary. You dont have to mess with any settings in the config other than the controller (and whether you are using a mockingbird or a mouse. You can set color too If you want to change it but you can change that with f-keys. But you dont need to change any disk drive settings. That will work right out of the box.
