@Billy-Lee I was helpful. I told you to go and ask the guy who is ripping off the RetroPie team for help.

Retropie in a NES - Pi 3 with Mausberry circuit shutdown switch wired to buttons and 8bitdo NesPro30 controller
Retropie in a Saturn Controller - Pi Zero, GPIO controls using DB9 driver
      Retropie in a PSX - Pi3

And I don't think it's condescending to point out that you've been duped by the guy who sold it to you. I think you should be directing support questions to them if they're making money off it.

This is a retropie website, hence me registering and asking questions about it.

I have been all day. But he seems like one guy replying to me, which is why I thought it would be more useful to post on here, clearly being unaware of whole illegality of what this chap was actually doing.

Look, I'll be using this site from now on for any purchasing or downloading. I do agree about the concerns of piracy in distributors being ripped off. I have this device now with retropie, but won't be making any further purchases via advertising on Facebook now that I'm aware it seems to be a common place, as informed, for people to do such things. I'm just a guy who enjoys retro games as a reminder of how great it was being a kid growing up in the 80s and wanting a little help.

I'm yet to have kodi on this device. It is illigal to have that on for movies and sports? Genuine question like the ones about my new controller and working various games were.

Please don't reply like a smart arse when clearly like a lot of folk purchasing these products, I'm unaware of the illegality of it.

I was legitimately surprised you thought this was legal.

I have not personally attacked you - so if you want to continue to hang out here - I suggest you stop the personal remarks.

I send many takedown requests - but it's a losing battle. Unfortunately there are just too many people quick to cash in on other people's hard work.

To help us help you - please make sure you read the sticky topics before posting - https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first

Long time lurker who signed on to the forum to help this guy

The wiki should always be your first port of call, there is some great information in there and i recommend reading threw it.

                https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki

[removed references to youtube channel that now promotes piracy]

You get 10 save slots per game, if you have a save that you want to reaload. Start the game with the save and hit left trigger and select and it will load. You change save slot by using select and up or down on d pad.

To set up your controller his start(with working controller) and bring up emulation stsation menu. I dont have it in front of me but there will be an option to re map a controller. Select it and go threw the prompts with the snes controller until setup. You will have less buttons then it asks for so just hold an already mapped key down to skip those buttons.

Not sure about the 64 games problem, the pi3 cant run most of them anyway. Check the compatability spreadsheet in the wiki. You could try changing the emulator by pressing "a" when you load up a game and muck around with it there. Or lower the resoultion.

I to bought a kit off the internet that had retropie already flashed to a sd card, i got my moneys worth out of the components and didnt feel like they were making money off retropie. First thing i did was re flash the stock image anyway.

You wont need a mouse but a keyboard will help down the line somewhere

Even when unaltered and not calculated into the price in any way, including a pre-installed RetroPie package as an incentive for sale is illegal .

First thing i did was re flash the stock image anyway.

This is always the best course of action in this situation. These pre-made images are mostly put together by people with only a passing knowledge or even interest in how the software works. It's usually only a matter of time until they fail outright.

Thanks! I'll check out the link and YouTube. This is all I wanted, some help in setup without the politics, exchanges & threats, so I appreciate you taking the time to help me.

"You get 10 save slots per game, if you have a save that you want to reaload. Start the game with the save and hit left trigger and select and it will load. You change save slot by using select and up or down on d pad."

Thanks! I've managed to load the game with your advice, but it seems to be select & right/left for loading different saving slots. There looks like there's countless saving slots...! I've, say, selected saving slot 2 and let go of right & select, but nothing appears to have loaded. When I press up or down with select nothing appears to happen.

" To set up your controller hit start(with working controller) and bring up emulation stsation menu. I dont have it in front of me but there will be an option to re map a controller. Select it and go threw the prompts with the snes controller until setup. You will have less buttons then it asks for so just hold an already mapped key down to skip those buttons."

When I hit start I get 'main menu' the. Scraper, sound settings, ui settings, other settings, configure input and quit. I've always clicked on configure input to which a box comes up detecting 3 game pads (two PS3 and one SNES) and prompts me to hold a button to configure, which I've done so and pressed each button it prompts me too until it gets to what would be PS3 controller buttons in which I have to use the PS3 controller to skip down the list and press ok. It's from this point I can use my snes pihut controller, but not whilst in an actual game, only to select the console and games themselves. :(

"Not sure about the 64 games problem, the pi3 cant run most of them anyway. Check the compatability spreadsheet in the wiki. You could try changing the emulator by pressing "a" when you load up a game and muck around with it there. Or lower the resoultion."

Thanks!! That did actually work. I changed the emulator to mupen64plus-gles2n64 and from doing so it didn't jump as much with the intro and the picture (brightness, colour) was a lot better and it's now playable.

"You wont need a mouse but a keyboard will help down the line somewhere"

I bought the all in one as I'd like to add kodi to it . Should arrive next week hopefully.

So, I'm just stuck with not being to use the pihut snes controller. I can only do as mentioned and come out of the game with start & select, but not use any other buttons :/ maybe I went to the wrong screen when pressing start, but that's all I could see there, the configuration, which I went through, but still no joy :(

The mini wireless keyboard touchpad combo just arrived in the post after ordering it yesterday...! Not a clue how to hook it up so I can input my wifi. So far have plugged the USB into the device, turned it on, went to wifi settings, but it isn't picking it up. I'll have to figure that one out :/

I'm entitled to ask questions to help me use it. It it the distributor who's the bad guy

The thing is, I think you are missing the point completely. You are entitled to ask questions and request support for your purchase but that request should go to the person you paid. There are an awful lot of posters who appear on this forum ranting about how some 64GB fully loaded image no longer works with this and that. Then you get people ranting about how their controller doesn't work with this game and that game. I know that people get frustrated and that leads them to ignore the https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first thread. Then they start posting about how bad Retropie is and how it doesn't work and is a waste of time and money. At no time do they realise that it is free and is created by experts in their free time. At no time do they realise that they have paid someone who has stolen the work of others for a quick profit. They somehow think that because Retropie is on their "purchased" system, answers should be provided on here as part of their right due to a purchase that has been made by them. The guy who you paid even posts this forum as a support link! (Give him some polish for his brass neck by the way). I and many others who read this forum have exactly the same interest as you do. What everyone is trying to say is that if you want support for Retropie, you simply need to install the software using the latest image from this website as this is the one that is supported and it is this that people know about. You will need to spend some time and learn how to do it by reading the online documentation. It takes about an hour from no prior knowledge. Third party builds which nobody has a clue about are not supported. It is impossible to support software that has been modified in unknown ways and there is of course no motivation to support illegal pre-loaded images anyway. The problem is that individuals such as yourself see the device advertised and are quite rightly impressed by what is offered, so you make a purchase. Most of the time, people then go on and make the incorrect assumption that it is a plug and play device when it is not. If you start reading about arcade roms for example, you will understand what I mean.

Buying a third party image and coming to the forum asking for help with it is the equivalent of your friend stealing a car from the dealership, then you buying it from him, and then going to ask the dealer to fix your car for free.

                            You wouldn't download a car!

Anyways the matter has been hashed enough here. Buying and downloading thousands of ROMs is illegal, using add-ons to watch free TV is illegal.

Surely you understand where we are coming from. Just please respect the licences of the project and the hard work we do in our free time to make this project as amazing as it is.

Read the docs, do your due diligence, and you'll find you'll actually enjoy it far more when it is something you have put together and made your own.

If you read the documentation it will answer 99% of your questions: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/

I have that same keyboard and there should be a little USB receiver dongle that you just plug into your RPi and it should just work without doing anything.

I'd be worried about purchasing ones of those pre-filled RetroPie boxes from some stranger down a dark Facebook alley because you don't know what they've done to it...I mean it could have a rootkit or a back door! Who knows?

Anyways, the admins/devs here are very passionate about this project and they put a lot of time into this (and so do the other programmers who write the code for the emulators or the artists who do the graphics, etc.). They all do it for free in their spare time because they want to share their passion with others who have similar passions. These are their babies! I don't know if you have any kids of your own but passionate parents would do anything for their kids! When a total stranger kidnaps your baby and then dolls them up to sell them in sex trafficking, you know that you would go to the ends of the earth for them and there is going to be some shots fired!

You really need to watch what you're saying pal. Comparing my son to a piece of hardware. If anyone ever said anything like that to me in person I think you know exactly what would happen as any parent would. You want to make a point, do so without going to such levels. As you can see, and the same goes for the chap who posted above you, there's been enough discussion around this. You're not dealing with somebody ripping off the distributors and making money off them, but somebody onaware of them, purchasing what they sell then seeking help for the product called retropie on the site iteself.....learning what has happened, then stating they will be using this very site for any further downloads, donations, or anything to do with retropie. You're starting to become a pack of wolves on here, but I suggest you back off now , particularly with comments such as above .

Thank you for the help on the wireless keyboards though . I'm trying to be constructive as I can on here . Please let's just either respond to my questions or not reply at all. There's enough discussion expressed about the issue of the seller and as mentioned unfortunately many more like him. Thanks.

I haven't felt this range of emotions since The Water Temple.

Ignorance is bliss huh? (But still no defence from the law!)

                                        Pi/Linux newbie/mum, suddenly supervising 5 x Pi3 + 4 x Pi0 - I only wanted to play SMW!

Yeh, @mediamogul killed a guy with a trident!

Seriously though, you should probably lay low for a while as you will be wanted for murder...

@herb_fargus @BuZz as the discussion is mostly the same might it be an idea to add that kind of information ("we only support images from retropie") to the "first read before post article"? With some note about the illegality of pre-made images with Roms
