@Sébastien did you reconfigure the controller in emulationstation after switching the hack mode? If you update firmware hack should be off.

              @Sébastien

I use these same gamepads for my RetroPie, and I will admit it was frustrating to get them up and running. Like you, I set it up under the inputs section of the menu that pops up when you press start, and, as a result, had to deal with the gamepad working perfectly in EmulationStation, and then doing nothing once I started a game.

Assuming that the games you're playing are not through computer emulators like DosBox (which requires its own configuration), and instead, are for old consoles leveraging emulators that work well with RetroArch, I needed to actually go into the RetroArch configuration in the RetroPie menu. Once there, under Inputs, I set both the player 1 binds and hotkey binds there. After saving the configuration settings on exit, I started a game and the controller worked perfectly.

              Hope that helps you.

                1. Reset the controller configuration by exiting EmulationStation pressing F4. Type
                sudo /home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.sh

                Reset EmulationStation controll configuration.

                1. Unpair your 8bitdo controller in the BT setup.

                2. Connect your 8bitdo gamepad to your PC (fully charged) and upgrade to the latest Fw from 8bitdo's website.

                3. Redo the controller configuration in BT Setup.
Make sure the hack option is turned "off" and that you power on the controller with start only!. On the pro only start up with power on.

After you are done redo the controller configuration in EmulationStation (restart first)

                sudo reboot

Which emulators are you using? Does it work in any emulators or just some. I know PiSnes needs some manual configuration, the default setup doesn't work.

I just bought a FC30pro, set it to Android-Mode and hooked it up in Bluetooth-Settings.
                          It works perfect, no Problem.

Only thing that is a bit odd...it did not reconnect at first.
Then i set the connection to "Boot" and even if i unterstand this the way the Bluetooth Connection starts only on Boot process, the Pad connects at anytime 😲.
Well, dont unterstand this, but it works and its great!
Had not to use the hack or udev-rules, just connect and that was it.

The 8bitdo controllers have different pairing modes.
