How can I change buttons for my NES Mario Bros 1,2,3? I've read you can but haven't found a how-to. I don't want to change the entire NES button config, only three ROMs for now. Idk if MAME uses retroarch but I was able to remap some MAME ROMs but can't figure out NES ROMs. I simply want to change B "run" and A "jump" to Y "run" B "jump for the Mario bros trio.

You can adjust this in the core control settings. While in a game, invoke the RetroArch menu by selecting 'select+x', then navigate to 'Quick Menu' and 'Controls'. After you set the controls the way you like, make sure you use the save setting in the same menu that is marked for individual games rather than the whole core.

@mediamogul Thank you I was navigating through that menu put couldn't locate what I needed. I'll try this and report back.

Also, will these changes be permanent? I'm asking because I've done a little smoothing in the same green menu once during game play and it didn't save when I X'ed out of the game. (I've since enabled shaders per console)

Core settings such as these always persist between sessions. If you want the main RetroArch settings to persist, it's recommended you use the configuration editor found in the RetroPie menu of Emulation Station.

@mediamogul I did this and worked great thanks for the direction to the right place. What I wanted to do for Mario 1,2,3 was set the controls the same as Super Mario World. It's a little difficult playing original NES Mario Bros with a SNES controller, since the buttons aren't horizontal.
