When I boot into RetroPie, it goes to terminal

This is happening for me as well. I've tried two separate SD cards, one 64gb and one 8gb.

Pi Model or other hardware: B+
Power Supply used: Canakit 100-240V AC, 5V 2.5A
RetroPie Version Used (eg 3.6, 3.8.1, 4.1 - do not write latest): 4.1
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website, retropie-4.1-rpi2_rpi3
USB Devices connected: none.
Controller used: USB Buffalo Controller
Error messages received: none
Log found in /dev/shm/runcommand.log (if relevant):

How to replicate the problem:

Downloaded the image from Retropie
Used ApplePi Baker to put the image on the SD Cards.
Put the SD card in the pi, connected it to the tv, connected the controller, connected power.
It boots, runs through the setup, reboots, shows the splash screen, and then lands on the command prompt.

I've used the prior version (3.x) before with no issues. Not sure why I'm running into this now?

@thehashrocket Pi Model B? With the raspberry Pi 2/3 image? that's the issue.

@thehashrocket Yip. Wrong image. You need 1/ zero image.

I found this on the docs page, "
How do I boot to the desktop or Kodi

In retropie setup script>>Configuration / tools>>autostart

(1)Start EmulationStation at Boot: Boots into EmulationStation.
(2)Start Kodi at Boot: Boots into Kodi- if you exit Kodi you will be returned to EmulationStation.
(E)Manually Edit /opt/retropie/configs/autostart.sh: you can manually add other programs to start on boot.
(C)Boot to text console (autologin): Boots into the terminal.
(D)Boot to Desktop: If you have a desktop environment installed like LXDE this will boot into the desktop."
So, I can change it, the settings must have changed into the "c" option, so how can I change it?

@theoneandonly No because it's a Pi 2. The B+ is a Pi 1.

@theoneandonly Also, I think you are underpowering the board with those peripherals added. You really need 2.5A of current available to rule out PSU problems.

What are you doing here? It is no longer readable by windows as it is a Linux partition. If I were you, I would go back and start again, following the guide https://retropie.org.uk/docs/First-Installation/ then read up on transferring roms correctly. The card never comes out of the Pi.

Why? How? Just follow the guide. https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Transferring-Roms

Download RetroPie image (from zip)

Extract file

Format SD card

Use Win32IDskImager to write image to SD card

Boot into RetroPie

Configure PS3 controller

Copy roms using WinSCP

Reboot Emulationstation

Play
