New Boot Modes Raspi 3 ... when will it happen?
-
Yesterday I read an article about the WD HD Kit ( http://wdlabs.wd.com/category/wd-pidrive/ ). And somewhere I read that new boot modes will also be implemented into the standard system of Raspian / Retropie. I managed to setup a bootable USB-Stick with a copy & paste procedure (though it was not really faster then booting from SD-Card).
For me it is a mere question of convenience, because it's a pain in the ass to get the SD-Card out of the slot (I know about the mechanical reasons).
Because I'm often changing my setup and trying out a lot of stuff with the Raspi I would like to know when this feature (to boot automatically from every connected device) will be available as a standard option? The articles I read where about a year old and nothing has happened since then. Also the possibility to boot from a network device would be a dream come true for me.
Love to hear from you ...

P.S.: The Retropie Projekt (especially combining it with Kodi) is the best thing, in my opinion, what was ever established and so much enthusiasm is put into it, that I would like to thank all hard workers which devoted themselves to these projects. To see these projects flourishing (without any commercial interests) is for me the greatest wonder of all - to see that indeed "the best thing in life are free" and that we all have such a great fun with it.
So, thank you guys (and the community, too, of course)... (I had to say this once .... ;-)

@retox I wrote something about this a while ago.
New USB Drive boot method in latest FWIt's still in beta and is not developed by the RetroPie team. Raspian that is built on Debian is developed by the Raspberry Pi foundation.
Any bug's are to be reported to the Raspberry pi github
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
