      @BuZz best way to test a working version, play doom 2 on the easist difficulty. Sometimes you can kill the first guys sometimes you cant. But you can get to the end of the level really fast as it is short. In the second room which is the end if you cant kill the guy on the elevator or it takes a whole bunch of tries to exit the level it is bad. I thing mediamogul said new version was 2.9? And he put on 2.8 and it was fine. It appears only the last version was messed up.

          I compiled and have been testing 2.8.0 since the night before last and it seems to be OK. 2.8.1 had a number of issues, but I've since tested 'The Ultimate Doom', 'Doom II' and even beaten 'Chex Quest 1 & 2' without issue in 2.8.0.

            @mediamogul ok thanks - I'm happy to go to 2.8.0 instead of 2.8.1 - what were the issues btw ?

              @BuZz

              Several reported issues dealt with aiming, firing and the ability to interact with objects. I did read in one forum that all of these problems amount to a single issue with collision detection, which makes sense, but I never saw it confirmed one way or another.

                @mediamogul Thanks - so it's possible the issue people are seeing was introduced between 2.8.0 and 2.8.1

                Just going to test out 2.8.0 now and will update the scriptmodule/binaries when it's done (then I will get back to looking at Stella).

                  I can pretty much confirm that outright. I couldn't even so much as open a door in 'Chex Quest', or hit an opponent when standing face to face. After downgrading to 2.8.0, I was able to beat the game and it's sequel in no time without issue.

                      @mahcneto in your case you should uninstall zdoom right before you install it. Also delete your ini file by hand. Then when you install it you get a fresh version. Not sure what went wrong for you.

                          @BuZz

                          I was able to get through the first level in 'The Ultimate Doom', 'Doom II' and 'Chex Quest'. All seems to be well. Thanks for your time on this.

                          As a quick aside, does timidity produce music for anyone here? I get all the sound effects, but there's never been any level music and when a track tries to play at the end of the level, I get the warning; "Starting MIDI playback failed". Of course I'll start a new thread for this if no one knows of a quick solution.

                            @mediamogul timidity is working here at least.

                              There's probably something in the zdoom.ini that I haven't set yet. I've only been using the software for a few days, so I'll read up on it. Thanks again.

                                @mediamogul on my fresh install, I only had to switch the audio to timidity in the gui for it to work.

                                  I did this months ago but I also had to change audio to timidity in the gui for it to work like BuZz said.

                                    Works like a charm now. Thanks to you both. I always assumed since it was a cereal giveaway that 'Chex Quest' didn't have any midi music composed for it, but I'm now hearing it for the first time. Kinda keen.

                                        @mediamogul i have no way to try the update but timidy works great for me. I was testing it the other day. However, i use, i may say this wrong, opl synthesizer? I like the sound better on my setup. I have to turn it off when i play several games because the doom 2 music is playing while other games music is playing.

                                          @edmaul69 how do I get mods working? I followed the github tutorial and couldn't get it working, it goes back to ES everytime.

                                            It really needs to be rewritten. The information is both slightly inaccurate and outdated. If no one objects, I'd like to take a stab at correcting it, while also making the instructions a bit more agnostic by eliminating references to any particular wads.
