Last question for the night - the "theme.xml" file in the new famicom and superfamicom theme folders - do I need to touch those or change anything or leave them as they are? I'm guessing leave them alone but I just wanted to make sure.

Nope, they are good as they are for now.

        Enjoy your weekend.

Hmm, this morning I can't connect to Retropie with Putty or Filezilla. Network error. I made a new thread about this error here if anyone can help:

Can you access your RPi and go to the RetroPie menu access "show IP"?
Check the IP address and compare it to your Filezilla settings.

IP addresses tend to change by time so you either create a static IP setup or you check your IP address if connection fails and adjust accordingly.
Stupid question but is the ethernet cable connected?

Yup, that's the first thing I tried. The IP address is still the same as yesterday. I double-checked the cable to make sure it's connected okay. It was.

                    @ FlyingTomahawk,

I'm getting ahead of myself a bit here maybe but I'm curious now about what if I want to switch themes at some point? I see different themes support different systems, and some don't show up after switching themes. Since I have the carbon-custom theme folder now, is it possible later to make another custom folder and be able to switch back and forth between them? Right now I can only use my custom carbon theme, otherwise some systems will disappear from my selector. All the systems I want are supported in my carbon-custom folder, so that works out for me.

I was looking at your Futura theme and I really like it a lot. If I were to use another theme I think that would be the one I would go with. But I see there are a few systems I have that you haven't created a theme for yet. Anyways, I was just curious if it was as easy as creating a "futura-custom" theme for instance like I did for the carbon-custom folder, and having that as an alternative I could easily switch back and forth to? Of course there are a few systems missing like I mentioned so I don't know if you're planning to make more systems at some point?

You can add as many themes you like and switch between them via Es menu but they all show the same systems that you added into the copied es_systems.cfg file.
Yeah, some themes have more systems and some have less. If a system is missing it will show a white page with the system name written up top, or something like that I think.

What systems do you intend to use that are not inside the Futura theme? Besides Super Famicom and Famicom and TurboGrafx16.

Have you seen this theme here?

He also made the Newgen theme which hopefully will be released as soon as possible.

Well looking at what themes you have made for Futura, compared to the systems I'm setting up now, here's what's missing (it's quite a few):

                          amstradcpc
                          apple2
                          atarist
                          coco
                          dragon32
                          gameandwatch
                          intellivision
                          msx
                          sg-1000
                          tg16
                          vectrex
                          videopac
                          virtualboy
                          zxspectrum

I'm not 100% sure I'll be using the amstradcpc and apple2 systems. Some of those computer systems seem like they might be a bit of a pain to run, and the games are a mess to sort through, too. But the consoles are already sorted with my games, including the zxspectrum. I know that's a lot of systems. That's one thing I like about the carbon theme - they are all supported in that theme so the look of the selector will be consistent throughout. I love the look of your themes but it would ruin the whole look to have certain systems go to a blank page.

Wow, that's a loooot of systems. I would not recommend my system though if you intend to use so many systems.
My theme is heavy (1080p) and could probably handle around 10 systems with a few hundred scraped roms per systems.
I never made those systems because I thought they were not popular enough.
Carbon is a great system so is Pixel and Metapixel they support a lot systems.
Don't forget you can always create those missing systems yourself, it's not really difficult and not any different than what you did with the NES and SNES stuff.
Just find good screenshots and cut them using the layouts that are included then write a system description inside the theme.xml if you want a description and upload the logo, system.svg, and you're done.

Yeah, that was the other thing I was wondering about - would your theme handle so many systems? I guess not. I have lots of games and lots of systems I'm setting up and I heard some themes don't handle lots of systems well.

Will the carbon theme have any issues with so many systems? Like I said I may be dropping a few of the computer systems out since they seem complicated to run anyways, but I want to keep all the console systems, which is way more than 10.

And how does carbon/Retropie handle systems with tons of games? The consoles usually have a few hundred games at most, but it's the computer systems that can have thousands of games per system. Does that cause retropie to run sluggish, having so many games in a system?

Carbon is a light on the resources theme and should be able to handle it.

Great to hear. Too bad I can't use Futura, but nice job anyways with creating it. It's a great-looking theme. Well, off to enjoy my weekend and take a break form Retopie. My cold is a lot better. Have a great weekend!

@FlyingTomahawk the white screen of death issue has been fixed so he shouldn't have a problem running your theme if he's updated emulationstation.

I tried to update ES through "source" and it stucks at 21% and aborts after that. Telling me it failed to update ES. Then I tried "binary", showing me it is downloading the carbon theme and then kicks me back to the RPsetup menu with no message at all.
                                      ES version is still 2.0.1A.
Is there a different way to update ES?

Nice to hear the white screen of death issue is no longer a problem. Since I'm running the latest 4.1 I'm guessing I don't have to worry about it. So it sounds like using Futura could be an option for me which is great to hear. Right now Futura is missing a bunch of systems I'll be using so the look wouldn't be consistent. I like having some of the smaller, relatively unknown systems - in fact that's the primary reason I went with Retropie.

I'm still sorting through my games and organizing things. Lots of work but it will be worth it.

One system I seemed to overlook is my collection of Japanese Mega Drive games. Has anybody created a custom system theme for the Japanese Mega Drive, so I can maybe use the icon for it like I did for the Famicom systems? I'm in the same boat here as I was for Famicom - I can just combine all the US and Japanese Mega Drive games together, but I'd much prefer it to keep them separated.

I noticed the carbon theme set I downloaded contains a "genesis" theme in addition to the "megadrive" theme. I wonder if I could just add that to my system list and use that instead? It would be better if the logo was actually for the Japanese Mega Drive but at least by using the Genesis theme I could keep the Japanese roms in there and just remember that Genesis is actually the Japan Mega Drive. The Japanese games won't scrape anyways no matter where I put them so that isn't a consideration for me.

You could do it the same way as you did with the snes and nes. Copy and paste the megadrive or genesis theme folder, replace the logo and adjust the names in the es_systems.cfg
