@Msch87 when you installed the ps3 driver it opens a dialog saying

NOTE: You cannot currently use PS3 controllers with other bluetooth devices. The PS3 controller driver disables the standard bluetooth stack. If you want to use a wireless keyboard along with your PS3 controllers you can use 2.4ghz wireless devices that come with their own dongle.

Did you remove the driver before trying to pair a standard bluetooth device ?

No, I havent removed the ps3 driver yet. Strange, I dont remember ever getting that message either. I will try to remove the driver tonight, how do I go about doing that? Sorry, I'm still kind of new to the whole retropie experience so I apologize if that was a noob question. But removing the driver will fix the problem? Do I remove it through the same options I took to install it?

          @Msch87 yes. go to manage packages -> drivers -> ps3controller -> remove.

When you installed the ps3controller driver, after installing did you do anything else ? The message is shown when you go to "configure" it after installing.

I dont really remember. I was kind of in a hurry because I had people coming over for a retro videogame night, so I might've half assed trying to get the ps3 controller to work. I know I tried to update the bluetooth drivers when I realized my ps4 wasnt pairing anymore. But as for the ps3 driver install, I'm pretty sure all I did was install the drivers

So I finally got around to checking it out tonight, I go into retropie setup, but I dont have an option at all for manage packages. I dont know if I have an updated retropie or not, but I have no option for that. How do I find manage packages?

These are the options I have when I first load retropie-setup. I have:

                      1 Binary Based Installation
                      2 Source-based installation
3 Setup/Config (doesnt have what I'm looking for in it)
4 Experimental packages (doesnt have what I'm looking for in it)
5 install individual emulators from binary or source
                      6 uninstall retropie
                      U update retropie-setup script
                      R Perform Reboot

@Msch87 What version of the setup script do you have? The latest is 4.1.18.

@Msch87 update your script. I suspect yours is quite old.

Well, I think something messed up. Unfortunately, now this is a switch of topic but before I went to update the script, I had my controller idle to look up info on my phone, and my jerkweed cat pressed a button on my controller (laid on it), and hit Binary Based Installation. I didnt want to pull the plug on the system, in fear of it bricking or something while it was installing stuff, but after 20 minutes that installation went through.

It brought it back to the retropie setup so THEN I hit update script, it updated and then I went to perform reboot after deleting the ps3 driver. Now my entire retropie is brought to a black screen with the different colors on it, and on the top it says:

/opt/retropie/supplementary/emulationstation/emulationstation: error while loading shared libraries: libvlc.so.5: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory

After that, it shows the typed colored picture of whatever it is and then it gives me a prompt to enter a command (pi@retropie:~ $)

Sorry, I know this is totally off topic but now I have no idea what to do, I need help baaaad. What did I mess up, and what do I have to do to fix it?

                            P.S: never own a cat.

Ok, how do I do both of those through this black screen.

I know I sound like a bit of a noob, but I only slightly am with this. I bought an emulation kit off amazon, and it already had everything already installed on it. So how do I go about doing that through this screen?

Thanks again for all your help, I really do appreciate it.

@Msch87 enter sudo ./RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.sh exactly as I have typed it here.

Nevermind, I got everything working again by sudo apt install libvlc5 and sudo apt update and sudo apt upgrade

So, lol, hopefully this will be the last question I have to ask so I can leave you all alone.

I have everything loaded back up now. Script updated, AND deleted the ps3 driver (before everything went dead on me). I got back into EmulationStation to pair my ps4 controller, and now when I go to pair the device, its stuck on searching until I pull the plug on the pi. What do I do about this? Any fix for it?
