After editing config files they are now blank
-
Hey all, first time poster. I have done some searching but cannot find much on this. I purchased the raspberry pi setup already off ebay with retropie preloaded so I'm kind of a beginner with this. I used Win SCP to transfer roms from my pc to retropie. As i can wirelessly access the files I figured I would use it to access the config files for controller setup. It seems any files I have opened, edited and saved is now blank. Everything worked fine until i received my 4 x n 64 controllers from ebay. They recognise as the dragonrise usb generic joystick. They would not automatically detect so from the retropie menu i hit the options key and go to config controller. I had to manually hit each button then the controller would work. But it would not save after resetting the raspberry pi. Now my files I have tried to manually config (the controller files) are blank after editing them. Do I need to reinstall retropie from fresh?

@nonverbalcheese Take a look at that message at the top of every single page of this forum. ;-)
@herb_fargus It may be a good idea to put in read-this-first post a warning that here in the forum we do not support third-party preloaded RetroPie installs.

Thanks for the reply. Was not aware of the third party preload although it makes sense. I'm trying to gather as much info as I can but it is hard to take it all in from fresh. -
@nonverbalcheese my suggestion is to do a fresh install. Follow the instructions in the docs, it's not hard, and if you face problems we can try to help you here.
Cheers!

As painful as it sounds I guess I will have to. Thanks.
