@PetroRie Even in Australia it's expensive. This is the cheapest I've found stuff over here:
- RPi $54
- power cable $15
- case $10
- 16GB MicroSD card $8
The buffalo controllers are about $20 or so, or $40-60 for the bluetooth 8BitDo controllers. So even with everything, they're still charging over $100 for assembly and flashing an SD card.

@mattrixk The prices you mentioned are almost the same as in Europe. I've seen some shops selling RPi for 50EUR. I got my power supply for 15EUR, the 64GB SD card for 18EUR, the case was 8EUR. The wireless 8BitDo controllers cost around 35-45EUR here, however a PS4 controller costs 60EUR. I think these guys want to make a quick buck.

@PetroRie $50EUR is about $70AUD. Does that mean something is actually cheaper in Australia for once, or am I getting confused again?

So an issue I see is they are bundling these with roms. I do not know what the law in AUS is concerning that so I'll leave that be.
As for their price selling the bundle, no problem. They pre flash everything, set it up, bundle it with common components and it is ready to go out of the box for someone who does not wish to do any of this themselves. Fine. They can charge what they want and if people are willing to pay it, good for them. Supply and demand. sounds like they found a sweet spot in their country where they can resell, as a "value add" product, and make enough profit to run a small business. As long as they are not violating any licenses, what does it matter?

I bought from that page. I have a new image now that is slightly different from theirs as I have made a cabinet with my pi3 now using an Xarcade tank set up. I think I paid more than $180 but got wireless PS3 controllers. I still haven't worked out how they mapped them different for each emulator if anyone knows as a side note. They do show regular donations to the project on there so imo they aren't claiming they invented it.

@flipout That doesn't justify it. The disclaimer page of RetroPie says:
"Much of the software included in the RetroPie image have non-commercial licences. Because of this selling a pre-installed RetroPie image is not legal – this includes “giving away” a pre-installed RetroPie with your commercial product. Including copyrighted games with RetroPie is also not allowed.
If you are selling hardware that supports RetroPie you should provide a link to our site for your customers rather than including a RetroPie image with your product."
I totally agree with the last part. I've seen some good installation guides on YouTube, all you have to do is watch and follow. So people aren't even allowed to sell RetroPie.

I saw an interesting solution proposed by the RetroPie main dev here: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/post/60486
Note that the RetroPie premade image isn't allowed to be included due to licensing restrictions of some of the emulators. I recommend if the sdcard slot is not easily accessible, to do an image of RetroPie but remove all the emulators. They can be added back manually via retropie-setup by the user one they have their unit (although this would require a network connection via the usb slot or wifi if using pi zero w)

@meleu I think their solution is harder for people compared to installing it on a SD card. Still, that handheld console looks freaking awesome.
