I have just received my raspberry pi zero w budget pack in the mail today. I tried booting it up with the noobs program pre-installed on the sd card provided, but the green indicator light has not blinked once and responds to no action I have tried. I tried formating the card and re-installing the program, but still no response. I am afraid I may have a fried or faulty unit. I would like to install retropi eventually so I may need a walkthrough for that.

You may do better to start of the raspberry pi forums in case your unit is faulty. RetroPie has detailed installation instructions via the docs.link on this site.

@Butters_52 I had the same problem but it was because of my USB hub.

Try and unplug everything except power and HDMI and see if it runs then.

If so possible PSU issue as buzz said
