      Hello everyone,

This is my first post here so thank you in advance for any help. I am brand new to Raspberry Pis, RetroPie, and really this kind of technology in general. So please bear with me as I am going need very simple explanations and walkthroughs if at all possible!!

      Anyways,

I downloaded the RetroPie .gz yesterday straight from the RetroPie website, extracted the file to my desktop via 7zip, wrote the extracted file to my 32GB FAT32 memory card using Win32 Disk Imager, and fired up my Raspberry Pi 3 with 4.2.2 RetroPie running a microusb directly into my wall for power. I used a wired keyboard and a usb Xbox One controller.

Right when I plugged it in, it ran through all of the boot processes to get the RetroPie running. I then configured my controller and things were good to go.

Upon hitting the launch screen I was suprised to see there was only an option for RetroPie config. From what I had seen during all of my walkthroughs I thought there would be some preloaded games but I did not see that. Despite that I did not think much of it. From there I went to try to set up my wifi, and my Pi reboot 3 or 4 times in the process.

After that I ran updates and those went through successfully.

Next, I tried to install some of the ROMs I have onto the Pi through my network. The files loaded successfully and I was able to see them after restarting the emulator simulator. One of the games was N64 and one was PSX. I ran the PSX game, and it started to load, and was in the boot screen right before the "press start" and it crashed, and my Pi started to reboot. I did it about a dozen more times hoping that it would fix itself but it kept doing the same thing - sometimes reaching the "press start", and some times not reaching that.

Then I tried the N64 one. The N64 one had similar issues, but eventually I was able to load into the game. I played for about 3 minutes and it crashed.

Lastly, I have tried to install Kodi and Minecraft straight from the Pi config menu but those will not download either.

Does anyone have any advice? I am really lost right now. I cleared my MicroSD and am in the process of rewriting RetroPie to it in hopes that will fix it.

EDIT: It continues to crash even as I try to set up my controller. 3x in a row now.

Thanks to all for any help!

Bad/under-rated power supply? The Pi 3 needs like 2.5 amps and well regulated.

Alright, testing out a new SD card, and ordered a new power supply, which will be here tomorrow. I'll post back if I run into issues, thanks!

@stewam7 What do you mean by micro USB into the wall? If it's not a power supply but a USB socket in a plug plate then you are probably looking at 500mA max as opposed to 2.5A and this will be the cause.
