What games are you playing this week? 2017-04-24

@meleu How is the XD? I thought about getting one, but I saw that they had issues with blowing up with the wrong battery charger.

@meleu
I would love to have a GPD XD. Which model did you get? 5 inch, 7 inch?I've been curious about this model and it's on sale.
What games have I been playing?
Well the first DLC for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands called Narco Road came out last week so I finally got to play it on Sunday night. They also now are having weekly challenges for in game rewards (mostly clothing items) and I worked on those last Wednesday. I think the challenges change every Wednesday.This weekend I also played some Puzzle Boy II (a.k.a.: Kwirk or Amazing Tater) on the Gameboy. I played the original Kwirk/Puzzle Boy on my Gameboy when I was a kid but I don't think the 2nd one came out in the USA (but I could be wrong).
-
@backstander The second one did come out in America, but it went by the name Kwirk.

@lilbud
This is the one I have:

A lovely thing.
It's not the most robust device I've ever laid hands on, but it's worth the price it costs. I mean robust as a solid thing, not graphics/processing power. For these it's very good.
My stress tests were Super Mario Kart (N64) and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (Dreamcast), both with the pre-installed emulators. Also tested the Android game ShadowGun, a FPS game with fancy 3D graphics. Everything runs pretty smoothly, there's no stuttering at all.
But those were just for tests. My intention is to use it as a "portable RetroAchievements earning machine". Then I installed RetroArch and am playing NES, SNES, MegaDrive, GameBoys and now Master System too.

WOW! Can you provide a link?

I've been reading review of the GPD XD vs Q9. The have the same hardware inside and I think most people like the XD but they both have a few pros and cons; like the Q9 has a 7 inch display and the XD is 5 inch. I'm kind of surprised it doesn't have built in Bluetooth and only the Q9 has a camera but it's only like 0.3MP (on the back). -

A device small enough to carry in my pocket was a prerequisite when I chose it. But the Q9 looks nice too. Just found its official specs here.

I have no intention to use it to take photos. :-)
Maybe the lack of bluetooth could make the cost a bit lower and the battery last a little longer. After all, the joystick is built into the device.
Summing up: I'm very happy with it. :-)

I was thinking about getting the Wonderboy Remake but from what I've seen so far I'm not sure if I would enjoy it as much as I did the original. Also I'm still a little bit disappointed from Thimbleweed Park which I finished yesterday. So I have no idea what to play next.

This is one of those "I know what I'm playing... but do i REALLY know what I'm playing" kinda nights...

Was also jamming on some Parodius while the wife was binging on "13 Reasons Why" on Netflix.
GOT A STINKFOOT!!

@Capeman It's not Dr. Mario, but have your wife check out Palamedes.

// Edited comment on previous (now deleted) post. Thanks @BuZz .
I'm currently playing Contra on the Arcade, on 1-credit runs. So far I only made it to end of level 2 (hadn't played it before), but I'm having fun. I'm also doing it on Midnight Resistance, but that's a game I have finished several times in the past, so it's more for fun :)
A few weeks ago I was struggling with enjoying MAME and arcade games on emulators, given the unlimited continues. I was thinking of implementing a credit limiter either on MAME, or something, but then ran into this article on the Japanese Arcade Culture and 1-Credit runs, and while I am not a "hardcore gamer" to have ever finished a significant amount of games, especially on a single credit, it did get me to appreciate arcade games more and enjoying them a lot more by forcing me to always restart them when I lose.
Leaving it here in case others are interested:

@pjft they are deleted.

Finished Metroid Zero Mission.
It took 8h because I spent some time trying to explore the map and find the secret passages/items.
Now I moved to Mario vs Donkey Kong (GBA).

Pokemon Red ++, nothing like an original gameboy classic PK game that's been highly upgraded for a relaxing weekend.

Finally got my second badge at retroachievements.org!
Felix the Cat (Gameboy)
Pretty easy game, if you want to get a massage in your ego with a retroachievements badge, I recommend this game. ;-)
-
@meleu That price is a little too rich for my blood, I want one, but I guess my G3 with a bluetooth snes controller will have to do for now.
-
@lilbud are you "lilbud" at retroachievements site? You played with retroachievements enabled only once, and it was in 2016-06-05?! Is it correct?
-
@meleu Yeah. Keep this in mind, if there is someone on a site with the nickname Lilbud, it's probably me. I did screw around with it before finals last year, but stopped. Probably the lack of PS1 games on there
