      If you connect your pi + RetroPie via HDMI, currently it appears as "raspberry" in the device list. A bit boring... but we can change that!

      In /boot/config.txt, add the line

      cec_osd_name=RetroPie

      Reboot, and now it appears as "RetroPie" :) Note: on my TV I had to press a button to 'refresh' the AV channel list, to get it to update.

      So, this seems like something that could be automatic, so I was thinking about submitting it to the script, but not sure if it's a good idea and/or where to put it. Probably somewhere in https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/tree/master/scriptmodules/supplementary ?

        @dankcushions Cool, I have 2 LGs where you can call the inputs whatever you want and it overrides the EDID CEC but in the bedroom I have a shitty(massive) Toshiba that just refuses to be told...
        EDIT: NEVER buy a Toshiba TV. Total junk. Fantastic panel but dumb as a bag of dirt.

          I would describe my Samsung tv in this way, except the panel is only good, by no means fantastic. Samsung is friggin junk, major regret purchase right there. Should have gone with Sony.

            @Capeman Yip, SONY. But I definitely love my LGs. Used to have a Samsung TV, pure crap. I think my problem with the Toshiba is more the OS / smart (HA!) features. It is awful, you can't even use the built in apps. I bought a Chromecast a few years ago just to be able to make it work. The native apps are AWFUL.

              Maybe in https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/blob/master/scriptmodules/admin/image.sh ?

                Or maybe together with whatever code adds the memory split defaults to the config.txt file, so that changes to that file are centralized?

                  i thought that, but it's in an emulationstation related script: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/commit/3f25b68d4853ac3a3fee5ef7815a523811377b34

                  this change wouldn't be anything to do with emulationstation so i didn't want to put it there.

                    @dankcushions I think it has to do with the image creation, don't you?

                        @dankcushions I know @BuZz has typically been against modifying system code but at the very least could be documented on the docs somewhere.

                          @dankcushions That's a good call.

                          Supplementary would be my preference then, but @herb_fargus 's comment might actually settle it, then.
