Is it possible to add the SameBoy core to the RetroPie?

@Lodan-Zark could you enumerate some SameBoy advantage over Gambatte? Also, do you know if it works with retroachievements?

I was crossing my fingers for Super GameBoy support, but it doen't seem to offer anything that Gambatte doesn't already. It does claim to offer a high level of accuracy and advanced debugging options, which would be of great use in homebrew development, but overall there doesn't seem to be much going on for basic game play that isn't already available elsewhere.

Oh, I have no intention to sound like "I dare you to say why we should use SameBoy rather than Gambatte!" :-)
I'm just curious about the features of each core (and specially curious about retroachievements compatibility). By the way, it's RetroPie, and that means flexibility.

@backstander and well made homebrews too! :-)

I really enjoy those hacks and homebrews where the developer took good care of the results. Recently I was impressed with the graphic result of this hack: Metroid Rogue Dawn for NES (oh yeah! it has achievements LOL!). It has nice graphics for a NES game:

                  mrd2

Metroid Rogue Dawn for NES (oh yeah! it has achievements LOL!)

You're probably aware of this, but if not it's worth mentioning that 'Rogue Dawn' doesn't really have it's own achievements, but rather RA sees it as being plain vanilla 'Metroid' and rewards the achievement triggers in a different arrangement based on the hack's alterations and sometimes not at all if certain elements don't carry over.

Personally, when it comes to total conversion hacks that alter goal-oriented game play, I generally make a game-specific setting to disable cheevos, whereas graphical hacks such as 'Donkey Kong: Pauline Edition' I tend to leave them on, as the game play isn't directly altered in any significant way. It's all personal preference, but I just didn't like the idea of getting 'Metroid' achievements when I was essentially playing a different game.

I don't know how this can be possible. The achievement list is obtained through the ROM hash code. And this is the hash code for the patched Metroid (in other words, THE Metroid Rogue Dawn ROM):

RetroArch [INFO] :: CHEEVOS getting game id for hash bedbcb4a9cc11ff8bdaa51eff4511961
RetroArch [INFO] :: CHEEVOS got game id 9597.

We can see what game is the 9597 here: http://retroachievements.org/Game/9597

And here is the hash code for the original Metroid ROM:

RetroArch [INFO] :: CHEEVOS getting game id for hash b2d2d9ed68b3e5e0d29053ea525bd37c
RetroArch [INFO] :: CHEEVOS got game id 1487.

And the game 1487 is this one: http://retroachievements.org/Game/1487

                        (Ooops! I think we're hijacking the @Lodan-Zark topic! :-) )

I'm sorry, I stand completely corrected. I played 'Rogue Dawn' early into it's release and I was dead sure the RA website was crediting me for the original 'Metroid', but now I see that it is indeed listing it as a separate game. What I can't understand is that I also tried several other hacks at the time to test and they too were listed on the site as being their unhacked counterparts. I'm looking at my game history now and it's crediting me for playing 'Famicom Wars' last night when I was playing the English hack. I suppose RA could retain multiple hash listings in their database to accommodate all this madness. Regardless, you are certainly correct about 'Rogue Dawn'. I apologize for the confusion and cheevos ahoy!

I did notice when I played the SMB graphical only hack Atario Bros that I was popping achievements for the vanilla SMB.

Yes. This is indeed what happens. Specially for those RPG games released in Japan only and translated by fans.

today it seems that this core supports the borders of the super game boy.
has anyone tried it? would it be possible to add it?

unfortunately mgba supports borders but not palettes, while gambatte supports palettes but not borders :(
