SNES random button presses in game?
-
Hello all, I am still working on a build for a friend with his generic ShawnWan PS3/PC/Android controls. Here is my build.
- Pi3 with retropie 4.2 using 2.5amp power
- generic USB controller registering as ShawnWan PS3/PC/Android
-2 players playing
-lr-snes9x2010 using standard gl driver
When playing games in this instance turtles in time with 2 players I am getting several instances where the controllers have random button presses, I will lose all control for 2-5 seconds and the player will run in random directions. Does anyone else experience this? I do not have this issue with nes, n64, arcade or PS4 running on the same build, just on the SNES.
The one positive I have is I can't notice much button press lag when the TV is in game mode, and I have seen others claim to have lag issues with the gl driver.
Thanks for any advice or personal experience.

Interesting. I had similar problems last weekend when playing some snes games 4 player but thought it had to do with the weird collection of controllers I had wired up. For the record 2 xbox 360 wireless controllers with wireless dongle, 1 wii U pro controller, 1 wiimote with classic controller running via moltengamepad.
I don't know of the solution, but I had the problem as well.

I logged in today after a long absence looking for a solution to this problem. I have just started to experience it (as far as I know) after updating to RetroPie 4.2. I was playing A Link to the Past tonight and in game I would randomly be taken to the map menu and other times the game would randomly exit to Emulation Station. This is the first time I've experienced such behavior. I'm using 8BitDo FC30 Pro controllers over bluetooth.

@batesman I think the 8bitdo controllers are prone to ghost inputs, much like the Wii U Pro & the iBuffalo SNES. It's a known thing without an explanation or remedy. Today.
-
Odd. It isn't something I have observed in any other console emulation or in ES itself. The common thread between the three of us is that we're all experiencing it in SNES emulators.
-
@batesman I can now also confirm I experience the same issues of random button presses in SNES with two PS4 controllers using Wireless USB dongles. Again, this only occurs on SNES.
I have never experienced the exiting the rom problem.

I'm currently using lr-snes9x2010 as my SNES emulator. You?
-
@batesman Same - my info is up in the first post of the thread
-
I am going to try a different libretto emulator and see if the issue persists.
-
@batesman There are other issues with the other emulators as well, so it is a pick your own poison situation it think. 9x2010 works great for single player and I don't have the exiting game issue, so I am going to stick with it for now.
-
I have changed the emulator to lr-snes9x and since making that change have not experienced any random non button presses. I've put in about 2 hours playtime since making the change.
-
@batesman any other noticeable bugs?
-
@TMNTturtlguy None yet, but I'm on the lookout!
-
So after...several hours of gameplay (5ish), I was playing Link to the Past and while in a boss fight, the Retroarch menu popped up. When I selected "close retroarch", the game exited to Emulation Station.
I have a hotkey config setup that allows me to exit games which is why I think it is exiting to desktop. I think the phantom key presses are hitting my hotkey exit combo.
It's a long shot, but it's the only explanation I've got.

@batesman Which emulator are you using? you just state lr-snes9x.....9x2002? 9x2005?

I'm going to explain this to the best of my own understandng.
lr-snes9x is an emulator. The 2002, 2005, and 2010 emulators are all main packages but there are other optional snes emulators that are libretto core. These are included as optional pacakages. lr-snes9x is one of the optionals. So far, I have used lr-snes 2010 and lr-snes9x both have exhibited the issue, but lr-snes9x took much longer to do so.

@batesman hi, i have been having the same problems with my 8bitdo. Did you ever manage to fix the problem? I just got my 8bitdo today and while i was playing super mario kart it just steered me into a wall on a few occasions, then started resetting the game or just going back to the game list menu. worked 100% ok playing golden axe 3 for megadrive so only noticed it in the snes emulator.
