After a clean install on my raspberry pi 3 I can't seem to change render resolution any games. After selecting a render resolution an error shows up on the bottom of the run command menu for half a second. All I can make out of it is "cannot touch..." "...videomodes.cfg..." and "...permission denied...". So I guess my first question is where could I find the appropriate logs?

Hopping over to /opt/retropie/configs I find the ./all/ folder is owned by root. Should it be??

    drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 May 10 17:09 all
    drwxr-xr-x 2 pi pi 4096 Mar 19 14:59 amstradcpc
    drwxr-xr-x 2 pi pi 4096 Mar 19 15:00 arcade
    drwxr-xr-x 2 pi pi 4096 Mar 19 15:02 atari2600
    drwxr-xr-x 2 pi pi 4096 Mar 19 15:02 atari7800
    drwxr-xr-x 2 pi pi 4096 Mar 19 15:00 atarilynx
    ...

    inside ./all/

    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 216 Mar 19 14:58 autoconf.cfg
    -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 23 Mar 19 15:09 autostart.sh
    -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 20 May 10 17:09 bluetooth.cfg
    drwxr-xr-x 3 pi pi 4096 May 10 17:14 emulationstation
    ...

There is no videomodes.cfg file here (I suppose the runcommand script couldn't create it) and the ./all/ folder is owned by root. Issuing chown pi:pi fixes the problem but only temporarily because after a reboot the folder and file are owned by root once more. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.
