unfortunately I don't think so. I have updated neogeo.zip and one rom (maglord.zip) to the latest and still lr-fba shows the unibios splash screen, while lr-fba-next doesn't :(

are you using neogeo or FBA versions of the roms?

mame ROMs. I have tried different sets, including split and merged 0.174. Always same behaviour. lr-fba works, lr-fba-next always loads the stock bios

Just to clear up things: both lr-fba and lr-fba-next do work, but with the fba-unibios = "enabled" option, only lr-fba shows the unibios. lr-fba-next keeps on working, but with the standard bios.

If it was a ROM mismatch problem, I think lr-fba-next wouldn't load at all. It seems to me lr-fba-next doesn't recognize the fba-unibios = "enabled" option. Is that possible?

I can post the configs if needed

            Thanks a lot guys

Mine is working intermittently. For instance, WindJammers shows the unibios even on next.

Tried Windjammers. No luck: lr-fba-next still loads the stock bios...

Could it be a bug? In that case I'd report it to the Retropie dev team. Please let me know if your tests confirm my findings, so that I can file bug report. Thank you

                      Solved!

It seems that lr-fba looks for the bios under /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS while lf-fba-next looks for it under /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/neogeo

I have updated both dirs with the latest neogeo.zip and now the unibios splash screen is showing on both emus

Ok, so I tried that and no luck for me.

My bios, when unzipped, has up to 3.1 unibios? Is that the right one?

                            Have you added fba-unibios = "enabled" to /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-core-options.cfg ?

Oh no, I just had it enabled in the gui you can pull up during games.

I'll give that a whirl and report back.

I got a chance to check on this again, and still no luck.

i've got neogeo with 3.1 unibios in there, I just did a fresh install of Retropie, i've got the line in the config file, I've got the zip in the bios folder, the neo geo folder, and the FBA folder, it works fine in lr-fba, but not lr-fba-next.

                                any help?

What does enabling this do? Does it just show the NeoGeo splash screen?

And your NeoGeo zip file needs to be the right version. It can be a painful exercise finding the right one. FBA and FBA Next uses different romsets, but I have no idea if there's a difference in supported NeoGeo bios.

Ok, so I just tried this.

                                    RetroPie 3.8.1
                                    lr-fba-next

Put the correct romset version (FBA 0.2.97.38) as per
                                    https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Managing-ROMs

                                    Set this line in /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-core-options.cfg
fba-neogeo-mode = "UNIBIOS" (or you can set this in RGUI with Start + X, then choose Options)

I put neogeo.zip and nam1975.zip (from the above romset) into /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/fba

and then it worked without issue.

Here is the neogeo.zip that come with fba 0.2.97.38, I havent altered it.

Thanks, I'll try this tonight. I think my bios file was not correct or matching. I might re-download my NG roms to make sure they're .38 as well. Will report back later tonight hopefully!

I have the same problem written above, but I have my roms in the neogeo folder und using lr-fba-next on retropie 3.8.1

I followed the instruction in the wiki, changed the bios to uni in the rgui (all bios are available there)

Took care that the neogeo.zip (with all the different uni bios files) is in the rom folder of neogeo and BIOS

And no luck, still loading standard mvs with lr-fba-next (didn't tried other emus)

Also tried to leave the asia-s3 as default, and renamed the unibios 3.2 file to asia-s3.rom in the neogeo.zip

Then it doesen't load anything at all

                                          Suggestions?

                                          @gt4chuck is it now working?
                                          @Floob @dankcushions any other ideas?

                                            Ok, got it

It seems that the manually change in

                                            /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-core-options.cfg

is essential. Only setting the bios in the rgui is not enough.

                                            Both settings worked now!

But it only saves the setting for the specific rom

In my case, i like to play the AES versions. So I have to change the bios when i first start the game, then it keeps this setting

But I'm fine with it. Nevertheless an overall and general setting to AES would be sweet
