Buffalo Controller shuts down all peripherals
-
Hey Everyone,
here is my setup:
Pi Model or other hardware: RPI3 B
Power Supply used: 2.5 A USB power supply
RetroPie Version Used: Version 4.2
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website
USB Devices connected: Keyboard
Controller used: Buffalo Ibuffalo Classic USB game padI have been reading through the boards and it seems like Buffalo controllers are pretty hit and miss when it comes to functionality, but the issue I am having seems unique. When I plug the controller in all of a sudden none of the peripherals work. I have a USB key board, and that works fine when the Buffalo is not plugged in, but the second I plug it I can't navigate menus. I have tried plugging everything in before connecting the power supply to give the RPI time to recognize the peripherals and that doesn't work. I have tried using all four USB ports, that doesn't work. I have tried connecting other controllers, like one from my PS4 and that works fine. I have tried plugging the Buffalo into my pacbook pro, and I do get an error message saying the controller is drawing to much power and that all USB functionality will shut down. Can the Buffalo controller really draw that much power? Did I just get a defective controller?
Any help would be appreciated, I am just hoping i didn't waste my money buying this controller

@deadman3838 It seems like the controller is drawing a little too much for the your power supply to handle. Try using a powered USB hub.

@deadman3838 i second @ortsac it is possible its a problem with your power supply. You arent using a phone charger are you?

@edmaul69 I am using the power charger that came with the Canna starter kit off of Amazon. I'll try using a powered USB hub to see if that helps. Or I might just get a different controller

@deadman3838 i can pretty much rule out the power supply then. I only use the canakit power supplies and i have had no issues.
