Buffalo Controller shuts down all peripherals

Hey Everyone,

here is my setup:
Pi Model or other hardware: RPI3 B
Power Supply used: 2.5 A USB power supply
RetroPie Version Used: Version 4.2
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website
USB Devices connected: Keyboard
Controller used: Buffalo Ibuffalo Classic USB game pad

I have been reading through the boards and it seems like Buffalo controllers are pretty hit and miss when it comes to functionality, but the issue I am having seems unique. When I plug the controller in all of a sudden none of the peripherals work. I have a USB key board, and that works fine when the Buffalo is not plugged in, but the second I plug it I can't navigate menus. I have tried plugging everything in before connecting the power supply to give the RPI time to recognize the peripherals and that doesn't work. I have tried using all four USB ports, that doesn't work. I have tried connecting other controllers, like one from my PS4 and that works fine. I have tried plugging the Buffalo into my pacbook pro, and I do get an error message saying the controller is drawing to much power and that all USB functionality will shut down. Can the Buffalo controller really draw that much power? Did I just get a defective controller?

Any help would be appreciated, I am just hoping i didn't waste my money buying this controller

@deadman3838 It seems like the controller is drawing a little too much for the your power supply to handle. Try using a powered USB hub.

@deadman3838 i second @ortsac it is possible its a problem with your power supply. You arent using a phone charger are you?

@edmaul69 I am using the power charger that came with the Canna starter kit off of Amazon. I'll try using a powered USB hub to see if that helps. Or I might just get a different controller

@deadman3838 i can pretty much rule out the power supply then. I only use the canakit power supplies and i have had no issues.
